One day Trump will be gone, but the millions of fascists he empowered will still be spreading their poison, committing acts of terrorism, and doing everything in their power to destroy secular democracy and equality wherever they can.

This is a cancer we will need to eliminate using only methods our current constitution doesn’t allow. America needs a world class denazification. These monsters need to feel existential dread for ever externalizing their fascism, as a matter of law. Peace, prosperity and a civil society simply cannot exist with these people in it and free.

I wholeheartedly agree, but I don’t think this country is capable. You call out anyone for their hateful thetoric and you are accused of being the one who is out of line. Americans are so unbelievably afraid of any confrontation or pushback that we will defend the evil asshole’s right to be an evil asshole, but never their target.

Much of Europe was actually, antisemitism has always been strong across western European countries like France, Spain, and (at the time it was still considered one) the UK. And appeasement was an appealing option that most countries were in support of right up until the moment that the Nazis were in their borders blowing things up. The idea that the Allies had always opposed Nazi Germany - and especially that they did so for moral and ethical reasons - is one of the biggest white washing propaganda programs in modern history.

America holds the special distinction of being the only country besides Germany to hold a Nazi convention, though, and we did almost join the war on their side a couple of times while we were also funneling money and arms to various other nations in Europe.

A decent portion of it yes. Several ships of Jewish refugees turned away. There was even a plot to install their own authoritarian furer by deposing FDR. Unfortunately a lot of the details were lost to history due to FDR’s wheeling and dealing. Blackmailing the guilty parties in Congress to pass the new deal. But look up the business plot. The lot of them should have been publicly hung.

          This is correct.

The fact of the matter is capitalism has failed as was inevitable. Its now been proven that capitalism, even with socialist elements mixed in, simply does not work. Some of the best countries in the world, such as Sweden, now experience the rise of the far right.

The only solution is to abandon capitalism entirely.

Sexism and racism are the actual problem, it’s the manufactured fear reaction to non-white, non-male ascendancy in politics now that people of color and women ARE becoming economically and politically successful. Most of the liberal democracies in the west were okay with immigration and equality UNTIL those who benefitted from reachng for it started to threaten the idea of the ruling white male paradigm.

Thing is the fear reaction always rises up, becomes malignant to the right and implodes it. Seen this one play out countless times in ways large and small for well over 5 decades.

I mean basically this, entirely unironically.

      We couldn’t unracist the South.

So, we just have a happy little national divorce, and petition to join Canada, and then also the EU.

Or, form Super-Cascadia, New New England, and The Peoples Republic of Midwestistan.

Texas can annex Oklahoma, everything touching Utah becomes Greater Mormozonia Deseret and the rest can be the Confederacy 2.0.

(Sorry non included red mountain west / central states, you’re destined to be failed states due to climate change and depopulation, so you don’t get a name… ok, fine: Unorganized Territories)

Then the Chinese do a CIA and send tons of QBZ 192s and such to the 100% guaranteed resistance movements that’ll spring up in Jesusland, and maybe if we’re lucky, by 2150, we’ll have a saying that goes something like “America, once divided must unite; America, once united, must separate.”

We can unracist the south, we just have to stop being nice and tolerant. It requires hunting down hate groups, silencing hate speech and destroying cultural iconography that supports hate. Like making it a minor crime to fly a confederate flag or organize a hate group.

This is what the reconstruction was supposed to accomplish, but it failed.

The paradox of tolerance - you must not tolerate the intolerant to preserve tolerance.

I go to the range every week now that I am retired. Last Thursday I stopped in a gun store in Marion, NC on the way home. I have sent in there a few times just to look. On the door as you go in is Calvin pissing on Polisi sticker on the door and Trump shirts hanging on display. I am looking at stuff and some old fat fuck is filling out forms. Anyway to make a long story short I asked about the 30 cal machine gun on display and related a story about how the mechanics mounted a huge ass 50 cal on their HUMVEE when I was in Iraq. The old fat fuck into into how Cubans are ingenious on fixing things and how we need to make them the 51st state. The shop owner agreed. I asked, “hey man are you willing to signup and help with that?” The fat fuck said. " yeah sure. " So I just laughed and walked out. I have numerous gun shop stories like that. Usually I will asked, " sounds like you might have served? What unit were you with?" The response is almost always, " I was not in the military." I like to call them chickhawks because they are more than willing to send someone else into the shit but not willing to go themselves.

You are ruining his non-point! If it helps, remember, conservatives don’t know what the words they use mean, only how they make them feel. “Killed a Republican” = Leftist…it doesn’t matter that most recent political murders against conservatives were from other conservatives, they don’t do facts. The same with communist or socialism. They don’t actually know what those words mean, they just know “unga bunga feel-bad word make BIGLY MAD!” Once you learn that, it helps debate them more effectively.

Conservatives have done 90% of the political violence in this country since it’s literal inception.

“People did riots for BLM once” - cities did not burn down. No one “lost everything” also several right-wing agitators where discovered instigating the start of violence.

That’s also not “political violence by democrats ” unless your definition of “Democrat” is “anyone who isn’t both white and racist”

Charlie Kirk was killed by a Republican. Both Trump shooters were republicans. Gretchen Whitmer. January 6th. The Michigan Millitia. Sandy Hook. Trayvon Martin. George Floyd. Oklahoma City. Both Kennedys. MLK Jr.

Whether you consider this fortunate or unfortunate is up to you, but I don’t think this is likely. Not because MAGA won’t go that far, but because nobody in a position to organize a popular mass response (armed or unarmed) to a MAGA overthrow of democracy would actually do it. The right will enthusiastically support it, the center will be kinda mad but just fall in line and the left will be caught with its pants down because nobody is out there building the organizational infrastructure for such a thing.

I’m glad someone gets it. It won’t be ‘civil war’ it will be ‘civil unrest’ with any true attempts to organize or enact violence quickly being neutralized by the complicit surveillance state. It doesn’t matter what the majority believe or want. It matters what you can enact in defense of your principles and your right to exist. This is how the fascist mind works. If they can’t be stopped then they won’t stop.

Frankly, it’s already too late. We already know how this works because we’ve seen it. In Russia, Hong Kong, Tiananmen Square, Iran, and a smattering of other places. It won’t be civil war. You need a military force for civil war. a cohesive engine with infrastructure and capital and weaponry. It will be protests and varying degree of ‘riots’ with maybe a peppering individual actors carrying out actual terrorist violence. None of that amounts to a civil war. At best you’re talking about a handful of dumb kids that got guns and went to a protest and then got everyone at the protest killed when they tried to defend themselves.

Hell, the war for independence was more or less a civil war but it only succeeded because the French came in and whipped the colonies into an actual fighting force. There is no equivalent outside force today that is going to come in and train the American populace, and even if there were you would be talking about some funding of terrorist cells kinda CIA style. The only place that could even remotely, (and I mean a snowflakes chance in hell) work is in the less populated middle of the country but there’s no force out there that agrees with left wing ideology and there’s no way to get supplies to them.

I’m sorry folks. I wish it weren’t so, but the moral high ground is useless if you can’t defend it.

Wipe your digital footprint, learn to obfuscate yourself and stfu until you can figure out how to leave if you’re a vulnerable demographic because shit’s going to hit the fan hard and you might find yourself dying in an ‘accidental’ prison fire or something the next time you go to a big protest and get arrested.

I more or less agres, but I wanna note that I’m a bit more optimistic than you in that I don’t think it’s quite too late. In principle Americans could start now and build the infrastructure for a successful popular revolt (though that infrastructure would be much better used preemptively to prevent the need for popular revolt); they just won’t because they still believe the fascists will let themselves be voted out of power. The bad ending is still preventable but it won’t be prevented.

Also, get to know your neighbors. Most people are decent, and a semi-organized group willing to stand up for each other is a hell of a lot harder to oppress.

Also, I’d suggest reading “that nonviolent stuff will get you killed.” It’s about the role firearms played in the civil rights struggle. Super interesting read.

I’ve bought 6 guns in the past month. Im looking for more. Took my kids and girl out shooting last weekend, taught the kids how to load and fire the 22. Let my girl go from loading the magazines and firing the 9 and 40 pistols. Let her pick which she liked best for home. Next weekend I’ll have the 9 carbine, 40 carbine and shotgun out for her to fire and I have a better target system for the kids to work with. If it keeps then safe from assholes, I’m for it.

Can’t in my state, have to pay over $350 in fees, training and registration before I can even take home the purchased firearm.

Poor people (sadly the majority of the U.S. and growing!) really have one of two options… Break laws to defend yourself or accept the boot on your face.

I took a concealed carry course but realized the liability for shooting someone was pretty big. If I decide to carry, I intend to take multiple proficiency courses. I think that should be required.

What state is that? I’m in Illinois and it’s pretty bad here, hard to imagine worse.

Needles to say, I’ve got my firearm owner ID (thanks IL), my conceal carry, and handful of awareness/defense/tactics style classes under my belt to be prepared for just about any scenario (hopefully)

        1. FOID = $5 (technically all you need for step 4)

        2. CCL = $150+ 16-hour class + $150 license good for 5 years

        3. CCL insurance = $10+/month through USCCA, NRA, US Law Shield, or other (typically offers $1m+ for 2A defense attorney fees for criminal court and I believe ditto for civil court too)

        4. Now you can make your firearm purchase… minus 170+ banned firearms due to loading mechanisms, attachments, magazine capacities, firing method, etc.

        Thanks Prickster I mean Pritzker

I won’t say, talk is cheap, but the US government trying to disarm the people would surely be a sign of the end times.

How about yourself? Would you still “back the blue”? When the police knock on your door? Because then you might realize we have more in common than you’ve been led to believe.

Why do you even want guns? You are too pussy to use them to even stop your pedophile president. You cannot even use them to stop the Mexican cartels that are fucking your children in the ass. Why do you even care? You are a tremendous pussy anyway.
