  • Honestly it probably would be way less safe because the network of pumps and fans and whatnot that would be needed to keep that tunnel both DRY and oxygenated would be insane. I’m also pretty sure the trains would need to be built like submarines to prevent the atmosphereic pressure from crushing them? Or maybe the tunnel? It honestly seems like an engineering nightmare.

  • As someone who has absolutely 0 belief in Bourgoise Democracy I’ll tell you what I think will happen: They’ll put up some sacrificial lambs like that lady who was the greek ambassador and Lauren Bobert and a few other mid level crooks. They’ll bring them into congress and grill them and then maybe they get 10 years in prison max. More likely some fines and stuff. Trump will probably pardon anyone who is going to see real consequences. They’ll then take their money and run. Dems will control the White House and both chambers of congress after 2028, but they won’t pass public healthcare, or anything else like that. They’ll do some minor reforms and maybe a public option that will become a permanent battle every single budget hearing. By 2030 midterms there will be a snapback and “Red Wave”.

As for the foreign policy stuff I didn’t mention it because to quote Biden, “Nothing will fundamentally change.”

I hope I’m proven wrong. I really do.

  • Yeah like I said your in your phase of socialist development where you’ve accepted that the west is evil, but you have yet to deprogram yourself from the propaganda about its adversaries. So you see both the west, and its enemies, as the problem. Which is incoherent. I do not think anyone exists who thinks a government is perfect, but China is very clearly much better in many ways than any western government, and that is the very reason most of the global south looks to China in friendship.

It’s a common mindset to go through. I hope you can get through it in a productive way.

  • Do you say the same of Microsoft? Or Apple? They both have their own OS. Huawei has 114,000 employees in Research and Development. Microsoft has 77,000. Apple has 166,000 in TOTAL and do not disclose how many are in R&D.

Huawei used AOSP, and Linux as a foundation for earlier versions of Harmony OS, but have since switched over to an entirely bespoke HongMeng kernel.

I’d personally rather it be FOSS but I’m still glad to have any sort of competition in the OS space. It should be normalized that all programs should just have to compile themselves into different versions for all OSes. The more OSes other than Windows we have the more companies will want this. I think Unity game engine already does this where it gives you a Linux, Mac, and Windows executable by default.

But it being closed source makes sense for its usecase too. The Chinese Government want this to be used in government there, just like Windows is in the US, and so they want the code locked down.

If I had to choose what OS to use my order of which ones I’d prefer probably goes:

    GNU/Linux

    FreeBSD

    HarmonyOS

    MacOS

    Windows

I think the most important thing is that people realize Huawei is not making some Linux distro. They’re not a small or medium sized company. They’re a peer to Apple and Microsoft. An absolute behemoth that can support their own entirely in house software stack+ hardware ecosystem. That’s the real story here.
