On the present course, in which Ukrainian ammunition and manpower needs are not met, Ukrainian units are likely to hollow out, making Russian breakthroughs a distinct possibility.

Isn’t the situation west of Avdiivka basically a russian breakthrough?

That’s what it looks like to me. I expect that the pace of Russian is going to keep accelerating in the next few weeks. Ukraine doesn’t have any serious defense lines west of Avdeevka.

That was their big fortress, now Ukraine can’t even shell civilians to vent off steam.

They still can but now they can’t do it with ordinary artillery so they need to use the expensive ones. Not that it stopped them before, but the amount of shelling of the Donetsk itself should decrease. Though i read they are now targeting smaller villages for their terror strikes.

Ukraine doesn’t have any serious defense lines west of Avdeevka.

Give them a break. They only had $800m to do so and started midway into the battle. Last year they were too busy mocking Russia for building defensive lines so they had no time to dig any.

LOL I saw it mentioned how Ukraine hasn’t been building defences because it’s easier to embezzle money in other ways.

As soon as someone invents a shovel that can fit on the front of a Mercedes, the brave heroes of Kiev will be able to start Part 2 of their trench plans: digging trenches.

Yep, been seeing a lot of advances recently just in the past week or so alone. Right after Avdeevka they took like three villages one after the other.

Indeed, I think Russia managed to capture something like 70 square km in just the past week alone.
