Overdrive (which is Libby) integrates directly into the Kobo OS so you can borrow books directly on the device instead of the roundabout way you have to do it on the Kindle.
I know this might sound like overkill but I have ear issues so it’s necessary for me.
Tips go in a little dish of 99% iso alcohol. Don’t have to worry about the whole evaporation to water ratio that is often mentioned. Then if there is visible crud I will use a soft textured toothbrush (like for kids, the extra soft kind) and let them air dry (which is very fast because alcohol)
For the rest, a cotton swab dry to remove crud, and then all the parts go into a UV sterilization box (open the lid of the case to make sure the UV gets in there too)
It’s a whole ritual but it keeps me from getting irritated ears.
And yes I have over the ear headphones but I can’t lug those around everywhere all the time like earbuds.
And never ever use soap because it can and will break water surface tension and penetrate barriers like the speaker and microphone grills.
Yeah I’ve actually thought about doing that and making it an office desk calendar or something. Thanks for reminding me!
I sure am glad I got a Kobo for myself for Xmas and ripped all my books to it. Guess I’ll be recycling my Kindle for good.
Well seeing as how Tim was right up there next to Sundar I’m not the least bit surprised.
People in Houston generally drive 30mph above the speed limit anyway so this is just business as usual.
(I hate it by the way. Houston drivers are so incredibly dangerous. It’s absolutely insane.)
Propaganda. Mostly funded by the rich, in order to, of course, stay on the top of the class hierarchy. Easier to be a filthy evil oligarch when the “rabble” just fight each other and don’t pay any attention to you, or worse, kiss your boots.
Yeah that’s probably it. I did play it recently enough that steam would feed me news updates for it.
100% This.
So steam has the little update ribbon for games in your library, and recently one popped up for The Outer Worlds in my feed. I thought it was odd since it’s not a new game anymore so I checked it out and it was for some reason just the announcement for Outer Worlds 2. Thought that was odd too since that also happened awhile ago so I went to the discussion thread to see if there was an update to the announcement or something and I got to reading the comments. It was just the most toxic and vile cesspool of comments. Literal mud brained comments like “no woke game, no DEI this time, this game bad because I can’t fuck the asexual brown girl and she should be white anyway because that doesn’t make sense in outer space” and other vile bigoted shit. Like seriously guys? You hated the game so much that you have to spew your ignorant garbage brained thoughts on an announcement thread for the sequel? Fuck me these people are just the absolute sludge at the bottom of the barrel.
I’m all for protesting a game because the company is evil (you know which ones are) but holy hell people, the vast majority of the comments were not that at all. Just fucking go play something else. There are a hundred thousand other choices for any respective genre of game. Please just all of you fuck off.
I got the first gen rog ally while it was on a sale because I was curious if I’d like it more than my steam Deck.
Yeah the ally is collecting dust…
I wanted to then give it to my (not technically inclined, plays all games on a switch) partner when steam family library went live so she could play the vast library I have (and I was gonna setup emulators too) but I just couldn’t give it to her in good conscience. I’ve been working in IT for over 20 years and the UX for windows on a small device like the rog ally is such an utter pain in the ass that it basically ruined the experience. I used it as a living room PC for awhile by hooking it up to my TV with a KB/M but that’s just defeated the purpose of it’s form factor. It’s just a desktop PC now.
If using a Windows handheld as a traditional PC is the only comfortable way to use it for someone like me, there’s no way I’m giving that experience to someone that is used to console experiences.
Having steam OS on the rog ally (yes I’m well aware of Bazzite already existing and I’ve played around with it on the Ally, it’s just not quite there yet) would be a godsend to make the rog ally a useable device not just for myself, but definitely for the average person that grew up on consoles.
And yeah anything that can be done to get away from windows is better in my opinion. Even if Microsoft turned around tomorrow and made a “great UX for handhelds” it would still be windows. No thanks. I’ll keep a PC for the few things that just work better (or at all) on one just in case, but I don’t currently play any of the games that have the anti cheat issue on Linux anyway.
It’s great for hardware manufacturers, the consumers, and it’s great for Valve too. I for one welcome this expansion (finally) of the steam OS platform.

Well yeah, when they’re just cranking the hog and eating food for the first time, what did they expect?
Frozen veggies work great for low effort soup. Use the ones you have as I’ve found most veggies work with most other veggies flavor-wise, especially in soup. If you want more bite, add beans and/or mushrooms. And root veggies/potatoes add more substance, texture, and starch for natural thickening if you want something that’s not just broth and bits. You know what flavors you like so just go from there. Consider adding soy sauce or liquid aminos if you’re looking for more umami and salt.
A quick and easy one I do all the time for lazy days is: boxed broth, frozen carrots and peas. Celery (easy to chop even when sick), chop an onion into quarters (they soften and break apart, no need to slice and dice) some kind of root veg like turnip (quarter it, or if you get baby turnip just throw in whole) and mushrooms (get them pre sliced for minimum work) then a couple of tablespoons of Italian dry spice blend, salt, pepper.
And yeah as I mentioned, if you can get someone to shop you baby versions of the veg you gotta chop, you can skip that and just throw them in whole~
And for those of you that eat meat, just add chicken to that above recipe instead of mushrooms (or both!) and boom, chicken soup .
Edit: one thing is don’t use frozen soft veg like a Brussels sprouts, they get gross and mushy very fast. Stick to harder veg like carrot, potato, etc. Leafy greens (except Kale because it’s leathery when raw) almost always turn to mush when cooked in liquid.
Brave browser has a filter to bypass paywalls. Works on desktop and mobile versions. Definitely works on NYT as I just read something there today. And of course has built in adblock. You can also add additional filters and adblock lists.
Bonus: print to PDF in Brave to share an article with someone else. It retains all the graphics relevant to the article and cuts all the junk and ads out too.
