A lot of the people who are defending the DNC are not the ones decrying it.
A lot of the people who are defending the DNC are not the ones decrying it.
Turns out the only moral genocide is Democrat genocide. The millisecond Republicans do it we can suddenly all agree that it’s abhorrent and there are no excuses for our part in it.
The coup happened decades ago. They’re now comfortable enough in their power that the mask can come off.
I see this less as caving to the bully and more grown-ups playing with a child. They know they can just nod their heads and play in Trump’s fentanyl fairytale land for a phone call, and that gives them a whole extra month for more trade deals that will make them less reliant on the U.S. The only one losing here is Trump, who just looks like a petulant toddler getting played like a rube, but I suspect he’s too stupid to see it that way.
I have a very hard time imagining Trump will keep his word, but you gotta respect Sheinbaum for getting as much as she could. Trump might be feeling very pro gun control now that he’s in power though, so maybe there’s hope for a broader deal to help secure Mexico’s border from the flow of illegal American firearms.
Not a nationalist, I find this a terrifying thought, but 100%. Unless action is actually taken in the U.S., I don’t think the West stands a chance. China is already in a much stronger position than I think many Westerners realize, they made tremendous gains during the last Trump presidency. If Trump really does cling to power for the rest of his life, I think we’ll see a world where SA, SEA, Africa and parts of Europe are all completely economically reliant on China.
It can get worse.
Your boyfriend is right. Unless one of you has an in-demand technical degree or a lot of money, immigration to Western countries is going to be out of reach. That leaves you with weakened economies which are either already authoritarian, or trending authoritarian. Even if you could get to a place like Europe, far-right parties emboldened by their new U.S. support are rising in popularity and receiving centrist support in places like France and Germany.
There is no green field to relax in while the rest of the world collapses. You’ll have to fight to prevent the slide to fascism wherever you go.
Ah yeah, great plan, let’s fracture the empire while major corporations look on like vultures circling a corpse.
The sad truth is that without a strong, united US government, corporations are going to sieze complete control of any offshoots.
I’m cheering for harsh retaliation because it’s the only language the orange man will understand. If the economy has to collapse for us to have any chance of getting Americans to ditch their support of fascism, well we’ve already fucked up a million times to get this far so we’ll have to struggle through it.
What the DNC actually took away from Obama is that they could never run a fair primary again, because it threatened their ability to push corporate stooges.
I’d actually argue people didn’t know what Harris was selling. There was a very well written and well thought out policy platform written up on their campaign’s website, but none of that reached all the Americans who refuse to read anything. The campaign trail was very focused on how Donald Trump was a threat to democracy, but they refused to really draw attention to the Nazi iconography and truly terrifying promises Trump was making. In fact, an awful lot of the campaign trail was backing Israel, promising a more secure boarder, lying about how great the economy was, and promising to reach across the isle to work with the mythical “good Republican.”
And, to give the average American the benefit of the doubt, I don’t think many of them knew the potential dangers of a Trump re-election. I think a lot of people saw the weakly worded Democrat warnings as typical political mud-slinging. Both sides were calling each other the devil incarnate, and both sides refused to back up their claims, so it’s hard to be surprised that Americans just saw it as noise. I think most of them are just scared they won’t make it through the year, like my friends and I are, and got suckered in by the orange man telling them that everything sucks and he’ll make it better.
It’s been “a few more years” every election of my life. Nobody was ever going to take collective action to actually change the Democrat party, and the Republicans have been working for this endgame the whole time. The last two decades have been a slow motion car-crash.
It also assumes the outcome of our election was ever going to be fair, as if the captured Supreme Court wouldn’t have intervened in a close election to give Trump the presidency anyway. Harris needed a landslide victory to have a chance to avoid the election getting stolen, and by August it was clear she could not get one.
What approval ratings are you looking at, last I checked he’d managed to go lower than Biden.
Hell, you don’t even need to get that conspiratorial.
There are two possible options. The Democrats are either corrupt, or stupid. Both are a disqualifier for giving them power.
So this is the absolute batshit insane part of the Kamala/Harris campaign. If you looked through their published policy platform, yes they had plans to try and regulate corporate price gouging. However, they did not campaign on these plans, did not elaborate on those plans whenever the economy was brought up, and largely tried to deflect when asked about their plans by claiming the American economy is strong and had no issues.
Kamala had plans. Somebody told her to keep her mouth shut, probably because it would scare off the donors they were trying to court.
I really like eggs, but I walk to my grocery store and back, and often bump the fuck outta whatever I buy. After the first accident, I’ve not bought eggs in a real long while.
I feel like I’ve been internally screaming for several weeks straight.
Right, and how exactly is the group that decries capitalism meant to obtain financial support, or break through the righ-wing captured media?
Capitalism is fundamentally incompatible with leftist ideology, and will do everything in its power to squash it.
