Mint Cinnamon. All my hardware works, and it can do the few things I require my work PC to do. It even remembers things like my default audio device - something Ubuntu refused to do for years.

A serial killer who kills evil rich people.11·16 days agoIt’d be incredibly unrealistic to have them have any degree of success given the ease of determining their motive and potential targets, and the sheer amount of resources the police would undoubtedly throw at finding someone who was killing oligarchs.
Underwaterbob@sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Seems like the perfect day to ask: Muricans, what's your dream country to expatriate to? Non-Muricans, what's the thought on accepting US refugees?7·19 days agoKorea is facing a huge population crisis in the not-so-distant future. They already have ties to the U.S., too.

Libraries aren’t much use to me, here. I do have a card, though. I should see if they do the epub lending thing in English.
Underwaterbob@sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are some good uses for smart phones?1·21 days agoI have a large phone and I make the text pretty tiny, but I agree. My eyes aren’t quite what they used to be, and I can tell I’ll probably be hitching the font size up sometime to the point where frequent page turns might get annoying.

OLED screens make reading really comfortable at night. Black background, dark orange text, and turn off all the lights and it’s like text is floating in the air in front of you. There are plenty of epub readers out there. Moonreader is my favorite. I paid $5 for it years and years ago now. Absolutely worth it.
Used to be 18 or 20, then I had a kid and 2 became the norm.
Underwaterbob@sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Does your language have animal slangs?3·1 month ago“개새끼” (pronounced gay sek ee) literally translates to “dog baby”. “Son of a bitch” in Korean. It’s honestly the only example I can think of in Korean. I guess you also hear “돼지” (pronounced dway ji) meaning “pig” for fat people. Pretty bog standard around here I guess.
An ex and I were on a bus trip to a city about an hour away from where we lived while we taught English in Korea. The subject of there being a “subway” in said city came up randomly. She said she thought she had seen one the last time she was there. I had been there more times than she had and said there was no subway. She doubled down. No, she was quite sure she had seen one near the university. I doubled down, I’ve been there quite a few times. There’s no way they have a subway. It’s not even big enough for one! It got pretty heated. This went on for some time. Feelings were hurt.
She was talking about the sandwich restaurant, and I was talking about underground trains. We were both right.
