Mom: “Of course we have free will! Why are you overthinking everything? 日日諗埋諗埋啲咁嘅嘢，一味鑽牛角尖 (not sure how to translate this part, something like ‘Everyday you keep thinking these weird thoughts, keep going down a rabbit hole’)”

Also I can’t really mention suicide… or I’m “ungreatful for everything they’ve done for me”

Also politics:

The place I used to live doesn’t have google street view lol. I had to use Baidu Maps and their version of the street view thingy.

The most recent street image I found is from 2014… my family left in 2010… don’t recall it being different… although it does feel weird that I don’t recognize some parts of the alleyways (not really a street, cars don’t usually come through, you have to walk like 10 minutes, according to Baidu Maps, to the main street)…

And the Baidu car thing didnt even go all the way in to the alleyway so I can’t see the front of my building.

Just the vibe I remembered… dilapidated af and dirty… not just my imagination, the street views confirms it… (probably why they stopped updating the street view… it makes the government look bad)

I lived next to a mountain… and there are no street view up there (cuz obviously a car aint gonna drive up there… but they could still technically use a bike to capture streetview images)

I kinda have nostalgia for that place… (sort of not really)

I remember that mountain used to seem so mysterious to me…

I remember feeling afraid to touch some things, fearing it might be poisonous…

Not sure if I feel brave enough to visit… hope they don’t find out about all the anti-regime views I hold lol

Lol I thought I had a great memory for remembering my apartment at 8 years old, then I see all these comments and I’m like… oh, so I’m not that special after all

I mean I kinda wanna go back to the neighborhood where I used to live in and then raise kids there… and then have a moment where I’m like: “Hey kiddo, when your dad first arrived in this country, that was the school I used to go to”… like nostalgia + being able to relate to your kids…

Cuz my parents went to school in China and they had no idea what my experiences were… like I doubt they can relate to me, cuz I can hardly relate to them…

(I remember 1st 2nd grade before I came to the US, they had meter sticks they used to hit kids with and the teacher would throw chalk at kids that looked like they weren’t paying attention…)

Idk. But I remember my mom calling a 肥仔 in a light-hearted tone and I sort of felt the endearment… like my first instinct was oh mom’s teasing me again, like I didn’t feel offended at all, just annoyed that it become my nickname. If I had to make a comparison: I guess it’s sort of like calling a fat cat a “Chonker”

I wasn’t even that fat by American standards lol, literally at the time, in school there were kids bigger than me in the same grade.
