Canada produces good content that we should be enjoying. CBC Gem is free with ads or for a reasonable, low cost ($7). CTV also carries Canadian stuff, though not as much as CBC. It also has some free offerings (not sure the subscription price). It is part of Bell, of course, but at least it is a Canadian conglomerate and not an American one. And both are available over the air, if you are in an area that receives their signals.

Wow, I’m so sorry to hear that. As a non-American, I didn’t realize the food safety situation was this dire. What an unnecessary, pointless death. How many more until the people finally turn on the government? Food is about as non-partisan or bi-partisan as you can get.

Agreed, the whole “every episode is a different genre” is tiresome. I think that would have been fine for just one season, with some reason for that season to be like that. The show feels inconsistent and discontinuous, which is generally not what people like to experience. A good show may have both good episodes and sucky episodes, but still stand as at least the sum of its whole, if not more than its sum. SNW is kind of the opposite, where even if you have good individual episodes (and they’re not all good), the whole does not stand together.

I do appreciate the experiment in television and story telling (one of the reasons I loved Fringe way back when, even when the “science” was pretty awful), but I think they should have learned earlier. Oh well, too late now.

Speech-to-text (a type of AI) has been around for a fair good years, but now they’re being paired with generative AI. This is the kind of thing that shouldn’t be paired with a generative LLM. A language model to identify words? Yes. Generative? No.

The thing that surprises me is he was arrested instead of promoted.

It’s disappointing how many high profile people have signed on to this project. I understand that the story was integral to many people’s lives (myself included) and, yes, the career opportunity is huge, I’m sure the pay is good… But there’s a very direct line from these jobs to harming innocent people.

I quit my job boss was lying and enriching himself, but at least he wasn’t really directly harming people. Without exaggeration, I think nothing would make Rowling happier than if trans ladies were killed or killed themselves because of her influence. How can people support that? It’s a moral bankruptcy.

The fact they will take plasma twice a week from a person compared to Canadian Blood Services’ once every two weeks tells me enough of their care and concern for those selling plasma.

You’re just telling on yourself that you just don’t care where your money goes. And, you know what, that’s your call to make. But what I don’t understand is why bother attacking people who choose differently than you? Why do you care what random internet people you don’t even know think of you? Who would even know how you choose to spend your dollars if you didn’t say anything?

If you don’t care where your dollars go, just own it. “I’ve got too many other more immediate things in my life to worry about.” Okay, then. Fine. Just own it, and stop being so insecure about it. If you’re right, then you’re right.

“You’re not perfect, so don’t even try” is an incredibly childish and immature stance to take. That’s like saying no one should ever try or learn anything new because they’re not masters of it immediately. I mean, if that’s the attitude you have, why should you even bother anything ever? What is the point of your life if you’re not the best or perfect at everything? You may as well just go and die already.

Did anyone ever think he was a climate guy? He was voted for mostly being neither Trudeau nor Poilievre. It’s been a big positive otherwise that he’s a true statesman, but I can’t imagine what would have made anyone think he was a climate guy.

Truly, I don’t understand how this isn’t a thing already, it’s so basic. In any other context, a large investor in a private company acquires a share of it. In Canada, if the large investor is the government, its a gift?? Wtf??? I’d even be okay to, say, build on some clauses that the government buys shares at a higher price, or needs to divest at X time, first right to buy back, etc., if people are afraid of the government literally taking over everything.

Or even simple clauses, like CEO take a pay cut, no bonuses, etc. But this business of privatizing gains and socializing losses only helps the ultra wealthy hoard wealth at the expense of everyone else. It’s incredibly immoral to take bailouts, then give bonuses and even fire workers.

My dude, Trump worship doesn’t make sense to begin with, and yet, here we are. You can’t use logic and reason in a situation that has no logic and reason.

I’m a fairly reasonable, educated (masters), Millennial (i.e., have some life experience). I think it could be a false flag conspiracy. The fact that I think it’s possibly credible that the current president of the USA could have arranged (or, rather, he had it arranged) a fake threat on his life is an indication that the office is the president and the US government around it has no credibility. The lies every day that sometimes contradict not only actual evidence, but what their own offices said just the day or days before. Not to say anything of the moral bankruptcy and corruption on display every day.

If it’s real (and I’m not saying it is, only that it is not outside the realm of credibility, given what we’ve seen), there are many die-hard Trumpers who, essentially, worship him. The images of him being embraced by Jesus and then as Jesus were not the end of him, were they? We only need to consider J6 where people expected to take a took a day off work, overthrow the government and maybe kill some Democrats, and then what? Return to work the next Day? They expected Trump to be installed as president and face no consequences.

More recently, look at ICE. Pro-Trump “irregular immigrants” still expect Trump to personally exempt, protect, and pardon them.

Trump has and does pardon true and real criminals. If I were a Trump worshipper, and told he personally asked me to do this, and he would use his power to protect me, I would probably to it. Only I’m not a delusional Trump worshiper.

While I’m less hostile to the idea (actually, I kind of like it), ultimately it doesn’t make sense. Our geographic difference makes our situation very different from EU member states. Our resources and outputs are very different, our location and geography makes transport needs very different. Deals that make sense for us among the Americas would make no sense for the EU. And the EU isn’t just trade, free flow of citizens makes no sense in this context, either.

Brexit was dumb for them, but it doesn’t mean joining would be smart for us. We should be just be allies with the EU and have lots of friendly policies, yes.

To put it another way, just because you break up with a long time partner who became abusive, it doesn’t mean you should start dating the (long distance) friend who supported you through it. Sometimes you should just be friends, for the better.

Not all trans people are transitioned on hormones, so I guess a relevant question is Are trans athletes required to have been on HRT +testosterone blockers for a minimum time in order to compete in sports? At what level of competition would that be required? How and by whom is that monitored? Is it even possible to monitor if, say, an athlete reduces their T blockers?

“Speaking out” has now basically lost its meaning and only means making a statement publicly.
