With all the exploits being discovered via AI agents for IoT devices, I’m interested in trying this out myself. I own a Bose Soundbar 500 (pictured) and I’m interested in exploring what (if any) information it’s phoning home with. It’s also become somewhat unreliable lately, requiring me to hard reset it and I’d like to see if I can find some logs and debug it.
If anyone can point me to some resources so that I can learn more about this process, it would be greatly appreciated!
I just use Pihole to block all “calls home” which don’t have anything to do with the actual functionality of the product. As it is a DNS server the Pihole logs show which domains are being requested but not the information sent.
I’ve been meaning to setup a Pihole, but procrastination keeps getting the best of me. Thank you for the reminder. As for showing the information sent, you’re probably right unless it’s being sent unencrypted (or encrypted with an eMudhra certificate lol).
To see what is being sent you’ll need a packet sniffer.
