I thought the EU was a huge market for chinese solar? I didn’t know there were any restrictions, at least as of a few years ago.

That’s the main hope, that the PRC can keep backdoor-ing solar into the EU, lowering energy prices by providing a cheaper alternative, and force domestic power companies to either innovate and lower their prices, or die, and face the political backlash of a power grid that can’t compete with panels and batteries you can buy for yourself.

The main culprit is the US, and hopefully as its power wanes, there will arise parties hostile to it, that don’t think the main purpose of government is to funnel money to Israel and Ukraine, and also that want to embrace better energy policies. Honestly tho, I think it’ll be slower than the rest of the world to adopt green energy. Asia, Africa, and Latin America will soon lap the US and EU, and it’ll be their turn to play catch-up.

Its pretty funny how one of the front lines of the cold war, was that the capitalist world was able to out-produce consumer goods and luxuries, and that these were denied to people living in communist bloc countries.

Now its reversed, the PRC is out-producing the capitalist countries, and their green, EV, and tech markets are like 5 years ahead of the US, with the lead growing.

The main difference is that the US and Europe (less so europe now) are imposing a self-embargo on Chinese tech, justified by protectionism and racism.

Once Mexico and Canada start getting smartphones and EVs that are like 10 years ahead of what’s available in the US, we’ll likely see emigration from the US similar to what happened in east germany.

For me, I’ve found the only way to be consistent, is to limit my number of minutes per day. I used to try to do 30m-1h per day, but found that wasn’t sustainable, so now I only do 10m of mandarin and 10m of spanish every day, tracking them with a habit-streak app to stay honest.

If you find you can only do 5m per day, that’s still better than nothing.
