Saudi Arabia selling cheap oil is a central pillar for the modern industrialized nations in the global north. East Asia and Europe will be most heavily affected. Fancy cars, trucks and planes become worthless without oil to power them.

Given the circumstances China will team up with Saudi-Arabia and Pakistan against the Houthi (China already sells drones to Saudis). Europe might also start its own mission against the Houthi with Saudi-Arabia and the US.

The US might profit from high oil prices, as Saudi Arabia will be one less competitor. In the short term they might stop Diesel exports because of internal shortages, if there is some will to stabilize internal politics remains.

There is zero chance of China teaming up with the Saudis given that China is allied with Iran, and their major business is renewables and EV exports which are now booming.

the last chokepoint is the suez canal, if the axis somehow manages to get a hold of it oil has nowhere to go. of course this is a non issue now since it isn’t flowing westward, but they’ll try to rebuild this pipeline every time they can. we’ll start feeling the oil prices for real now, tho.

    • That would the pretext Israel needs to invade Sinai. The US and Germany will condemn while providing it with the weapons to do so, and Egypt reliant on US aid will sit back and watch.

sometimes i feels like people go out of their way to convince themselves that history won’t repeat itself on them.
