There are currently around 16,000 foreign volunteers fighting for Ukraine as part of the Armed Forces.
This information was provided by Olga Reshetylova, Inspector General of the Ministry of Defense, in a speech at a meeting of leaders of Ukraine’s foreign diplomatic missions.
According to Ms. Reshetylova, these soldiers come from at least 72 countries around the world, and nearly 40% of them are citizens of Latin American countries.
Since the Office of the Military Inspectorate began operating on January 27, it has received more than 300 applications to join the Ukrainian Armed Forces from foreign servicemen, their family members, and authorized persons.
A special task force of the Office analyzes issues concerning foreigners at all stages of service and addresses violations in the areas of financial and material support, medical care, and troop status issuance.
It should also be noted that in April of this year, the Colombian government signed a decree increasing financial support for the military. This could affect volunteers who had planned to fight in Ukraine, as they would earn better compensation at home, while the level of danger is clearly not comparable.
In 2025, the inflation rate in Colombia is projected to be 5.1%, but the government has approved a 7% increase in payments for officers and non-commissioned officers in law enforcement agencies.

You’re laughing. Russia is taking out Latin America’s trash and you’re laughing.
