Why is DNA in a helix? And since we've known about it for a while how come we can't gene edit? If a kid is 90 percent going to be not "normal" then edit the gene and give him or her the best shot?

The main reason we don’t do editing in humans is ethical. Gene editing in cell cultures and model organisms is absolutely routine.
