Honestly, that makes him miles above most other candidates, but they literally didn’t give the Popular Front any power even though they won the elections fair and square last time…

If I had a nickel for every time French politicians made credible threats to leave NATO I’d have two nickels which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice.

This is referring to De Gaulle right?

Honestly he was just wierd. Yknow how Lenin said something like “it’s a shame we lost Mussolini to capitalism”? That’s how I feel about De Gaulle

The quote specifically is “what a waste we lost mussolini. He is a first rate man who would have led our party to power in italy”

I’ve had it thrown in my face a few times and honestly just didnt bother to check the sources, because its easy to argue from the position that its a real quote anyway.

However upon further investigation I cannot find a primary source for this, so take it what you will. Reportedly it’s from 1922 which would be 2 years before Lenin’ death, and we know how often people just make up things for Lenin to say, even within the USSR cough Zinoviev cough

Why would they throw it in your face? It is not like Lenin upheld fascism or anything.

It does seem like a somewhat suspicious quote to me, so that makes sense.

i want to look into it but it is recorded that mussolini was in fact a socialist party member before he became a reactionary

yeah probably not, that wasn’t what i was saying. but lenin probably knew a little about his history from purported socialist to reactionary when first meeting him as a leader. i don’t think lenin meant it in any sort of adoring tone which is why i didn’t understand why you were confused initially. it’s not that far fetched and it’s not really praise for him to be like “Damn, wish this guy wasn’t a fash and just stayed normal” is what i’m saying

which i can kinda get that perspective

mussolini undoubtedly had a powerful presence, charisma, and was extremely passionate

lenin in a way had all these same qualities and i have to agree that if mussolini had remained a socialist he probably would’ve been the leading face of the communists in italy, maybe not the brain of the party but certainly the face of it

a strong persona naturally attracts people to your cause; assuming the lenin quote is real that’s probably what it’s referring to

I get it now. It does seem like some liberal making up a quote to make Lenin come across as fascist (if it is made-up), but even if it was real, it does not come across as supporting fascism and someone said that they could not find a primary source with that quote.

He can win the election again and they’ll still keep him out of office. Also, don’t forget to add that you’ll sharpen the “metaphorical” guillotine blades.
