  • Same thing is happening to India before our eyes.

Thing is, the Western view that media is free inherently makes people more susceptible to propaganda. To be more precise, Western media has achieved a few things: (1) The illusion of media freedom makes people less likely to question the media they consume. (2) The profit-driven motive of media companies makes it more likely for facts to be “reinterpreted” to better fit the target reader’s worldview. (3) The extent that government agencies are involved in media has been completely hidden from the public.

  • I mean, it’s not like Chinese people are stupid. We know what’s wrong with society in mainland China, but we also see all the benefits that it’s brought. The fact that it isn’t talked about doesn’t mean that everyone’s bought into government propaganda, it just means that people are on average happy enough to not bother with it.

Flipping the firewall is easy. Going to Taiwan or Hong Kong is easy. Emigrating is easy.

Just because someone isn’t white doesn’t mean that they’re stupid ffs

  • You’ll get protection if discrimination passes a certain point, but it’s really more of a “hey you shouldn’t treat people that way” and not a “hey you shouldn’t treat gay people that way.”

A lot of older Chinese people just feel that the Western LGBT environment is rather odd: the rampant sexualization and PDA is at odds with the traditionally conservative culture. If the LGBT movement had adopted a more traditional protest scheme rather than the flair of flamboyance it has today, it would have seen much more support in China imo.

Also, a lot of Chinese TV has homoerotic undertones, idk what you’re watching.

  • China bet hard on developing countries because the developed world isn’t growing at a rate that can keep up with China’s economic growth targets. In fact, we’re very quickly running towards the crossover point for Chinese trade dependence on the West vs. on the rest of the world.

Also, a big chunk of Chinese exports to the West is in computers and consumer electronics… Markets which have seen a huge slowdown due to commoditization and aggressive political lobbying from the US.
