That highly depends on the language you’re using and therefore the model you’re going to settle on. If you’re using English you’re obviously lucky in that regard, but not everyone (including me) does. I’m not sure what do you mean it’s not open source, because Micro Wake Word and Voice Assistant are. Check the link I’ve posted it has both source for the software and hardware design
Thanks, I like them too! I’m amazed how much can one do with a 3d printer and ac solder iron:)
None of them required many cloud specifically, but you have to provide it with STT and TTS engines. You can use other 3rd party or run it on your own hardware, but to do it effectively (have it transcribe your voice in a second instead of 20) you need a GPU.
I am using a few of self-built assistants using https://github.com/formatBCE/Koala-Satellite/tree/main - which was heavily inspired and uses a lot of very similar hardware to HA Voice. I have to say my speakers turned out pretty great.
If you say so;) Please don’t get too offended, it doesn’t sound that different from each other :) Here’s one example of why that might be: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=NRdg1MOYxHo
Sorry, New Zealander ;) as someone who lives directly on the opposite side of the globe (Poland) I don’t see that much difference in accent;) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XT637TV3y5s
Oof Australian (not Austrian?;)) accent seems to be heavy ;)
Because then we would still have Stalin and the Red Alert scenario. Somehow I believe that would be worse.
Some of the stuff doesn’t need that much building, and some of it makes your life better (and there’s no alternative available in the market), that it makes it worthwhile.
They’re pretty cheap for something you’re not ordering from China too. If not reliable they’re from Ikea, so good customer service and they’ll replace them if something breaks (had it happen with Somrig).
As for a rotary I’ve ordered and I’m going to try this one.
ESPHome is a really good thing to look into if you’re a bit more advanced user, and CYD is a steal for what it is (even with the resistive touch screen it has).
From Zigbee devices I’d highly recommend the ones from Ikea (Somrig, Styrbar, Symfonisk - depending on what you’re going to use it for), and there are a lot more on AliExpress.
Another route might be using ESPHome and program something like Cheap Yellow Display (5-10$ on AliExpress) with LVGL.
It’s a matter of config, not hardware. I was putting my own together (based on the „official” one) and it is working. Maybe they’ve changed something there
Tailscale, because it’s a peer-to-peer VPN based on WireGuard with very little setup and Cloudflare Tunnel for external access to HA
I have had this for a while, I believe I have enabled experimental features on it.
There are some specialised esp32 devices sold with cases (sometimes optional), but 3d printing is another fun thing to get into since you seem bored;)
Yup, same here. Sometimes they wouldn’t bother to call, and would just take the package with them if I wouldn’t answer.
Or tell the courier to leave the package in whatever place I ask them to.
He was asking about satellites, the end devices that have mics/speakers.
You can buy these at around the same price or less, so no point in doing that
