Oh yeah, I use it for everything from automated lights to server monitoring notifications to Web scraping for when Publix chicken tender subs are on sale. Most everything you can think of is pretty well documented, and someone’s done it before. They have made some UI changes recently that make creating automations easier, but if you are ok with copying and editing YAML files, you can steal what other people have created pretty easily.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Alright let's see pictures of your super nice rack-mounted, professionally installed labs. I'll start 🙃English
10·19 days agoThe server is the black box on top of the rack. In the rack it’s networking and UPSs for both the server and my computer on the desk.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Where can i find a good video tutorial on shaving my junk?English
101·19 days agoGet some Nair. Just rub it on all the places with hair, avoid the tip. Wait 10 minutes, then rub the hair off with a wash cloth in the shower. Way smoother of a shave than I’ve ever gotten with a razor, and soooo much easier and more comfortable to do.

Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•I'm cutting FB and IG entirely, is there a way to see content there without an account?English
15·1 month agoI use either MeTube or https://mollygram.com/ to view IG reels my wife and friends send me. Doesn’t have full browsing though, and might not help with seeing business hours. I tend to just not do business with any place that requires an account to see their info.

6·3 months agoMy Gmail account has the Inactive Account Manager thing turned on so if I don’t use my account for 6 months it’ll email my wife my Bitwarden master password and instructions to get my self-host nerd into it where he can then do whatever he wants with it.

Gaming@beehaw.org•VR is an absolute game changer for racing gamesEnglish
4·4 months agoOh yeah VR racing is awesome. If you can afford one, I highly recommend getting a steering wheel with haptic feedback. They have motors in the wheels that will make it pull back to center to straighten out, just like a real car does, as well as interface with a lot of the games directly so that the wheel will shake a bit as you are hitting bumps in the road. I have legitimately never been as immersed in VR as I have been with one of these wheels.
The Logitech G920 is the one I have, looks like it’s on a good sale right now on Amazon too.
You try the freezer trick? If not, put it in a plastic bag in the freezer for a few hours. The cold can make some things work a bit better and maybe for long enough to recover what you need. Doesn’t always work but it’s cheaper than professional data recovery.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What was the best Christmas you've ever had?English
3·4 months ago2006, the year the PS3 came out. I asked for one and they were sold out everywhere. We were out shopping and I finally got my hands on a 20GB one, and my mom refused to buy it. She said she knew I had asked for the 60GB model and thought we’d find one eventually. I was devastated because I knew there was no way we’d find one anywhere before Christmas.
I woke up Christmas morning at like 2AM and opened the box over the tree, and it was a 60GB model. My parents had a friend the next state over who was able to find one, and they had already hidden it in the attic by the time I had found that 20GB one, so my mom had to make up excuses not to buy another one.
I plugged it in so it could start updating, then put it back in the box so I could “open” it in front of the family once everyone else was awake.
Ditto Boost. I have accounts on Lemmy and PieFed both on the same app.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Reccommending a Linux distro for a friendEnglish
5·4 months agoEchoing what others have said, a “gaming distro” really isn’t necessary. I have used Ubuntu for years on and off. When I switched my gaming PC to Linux earlier this year I went with Kubuntu, because it’s just Ubuntu and I like KDE Plasma better than Gnome. I do feel like Ubuntu is one of the easiest to find support for when you’re looking online.

3·4 months agoI’ve been doing this with Flashlight Tiramisu for years. Even replaced the quick settings button with one that opens that app instead of I long press it. Good that it’s baking into the OS though. Mostly mentioning for anyone who doesn’t want to wait.
