There was a big conversation about it a couple of months ago on one of the open source communities here if you want to search for it. Nothing shady iirc.
oeuf@slrpnk.netto United Kingdom@feddit.uk•Overheated homes: why UK housing is dangerously unprepared for impact of climate crisisEnglish2·2 days agoMan it’s not even just housing - pretty much everything that’s already teetering on the edge like water, transport, NHS, the National Grid, agriculture etc. is going to get clobbered. Bad timing for the UK.
oeuf@slrpnk.netto United Kingdom@feddit.uk•UK taxpayers on hook as failed Cumbria coalmine investors sue governmentEnglish2·2 days agoI agree. I think the government will pay out though, because they are so wedded to the idea of private investment and want to get patted on the head by the City.
The one thing that would turn around Labour’s abysmal polling is to grow a pair and stop bending over for capital and tyrants. They won’t do it though. Sad times for the nation.

It’s great. It’s the most “just works” experience I’ve had with Linux.
Wondeful thank you :)
oeuf@slrpnk.netto United Kingdom@feddit.uk•Allotments are vanishing when the UK urgently needs more of themEnglish51·5 days agoI think everyone should have access to their own garden or allotment. Allotments have an added social side which is great.

If you’re struggling with your windows plugins I highly recommend checking out kxstudio for native Linux ones. There are excellent plugins for audio production on linux. I also recommend using Ardour as your DAW.

These exploitation economies are a race to the bottom.
That’s exactly what they are and exactly what they do.
oeuf@slrpnk.netto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Leaving GitHub. Seeking ethical music server alternatives.English9·7 days agoI don’t have any app suggestions for you but have been reading through the comments and just wanted to say that I’m 100% with you.
I have a similar conversation with other musicians I know and it’s the reason that I (and many others) won’t release anything on Spotify: Just being there adds value to them and what they do is destructive and dirty.
I hope you find something and keep standing up for what’s right!
oeuf@slrpnk.netto UK Politics@feddit.uk•War in Gaza causes rift within the British left, french newspaper says7·7 days agoThe Labour government is not left, so who is the supposed rift with?
In fact, from what I can tell, all the talk is about cooperation with the Greens, independents, unions and community groups. Bringing the left together.
I haven’t heard any of this ‘splitting the left’ talk from leftwing backbenchers - only from Labour leadership goons and the right - which I think tells you everything you need to know about the message.
Over the next few years we’re going to have to be better than we were in 2019 at seeing this kind of FUD for what it is or we’ll get Farage as the next prime minister.
And we won’t get another chance to do something about it until 2034.

oeuf@slrpnk.netto United Kingdom@feddit.uk•Homelessness minister threw out her tenants - then increased rent by £700 a monthEnglish2·8 days agoNews like this accelerates loss of faith in our failed political and economic orthodoxy, so in a way I’m glad to see it.
It’s time now for a new and genuine progressive movement to come together and take the fight to Reform. I’ve signed up to the new Sultana/Corbyn/independent party but I would also recommend supporting a Green party under Zack Polanski, independent candidates who want to collaborate, and grassroots community projects.
Others analysis may differ but mine is that ‘the left’ is starting to pull together and we should get behind it.
Your timing is excellent: Debian 13 is due for release on Saturday :)
Good one, especially for hikers and sailors 👍
oeuf@slrpnk.netto Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•San Francisco is deploying speed cameras this week. If everything goes according to plan, the number of deaths will be reducedEnglish201·10 days agoSpeed cameras are very common in the UK and while they don’t eliminate speeding altogether, they are effective.
Apart from the risk of either a fine, doing a ‘speed awareness’ course or losing your license, it also means that people who are driving too fast regardless are more likely to simply get stuck behind other drivers who are observing the speed limit.
Thanks for your work on both!
