Exactly because it works always, whether you want it or not, which brings its own set of risks.

Canada@lemmy.ca•[Opinion] Justin Trudeau feared proportional representation, but the countries using his preferred electoral systems are where fears have become reality
3·1 month agoThat people voted against it is no evidence that it’s a horrible idea. The article to which you reply at least tries to provide a bit of evidence for its argument. Also, I don’t need a parliament that’s “efficient” (whatever that can mean. Do you measure that in number of pages of new laws passed per months?), I need one that’s fair and democratic. Wht has been happening sine the “liberals” got the majority is evidence enough for me that we should avoid non-coalitions as much as we can.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Travel to the U.S. is down even more dramatically than we thought, data shows
1·4 months agoYet, most people still spend several hours every day in “virtual US” (GAFAM).
IME, Android devices go the extra mile to not support SD cards formatted on another device (or with another OS). So maybe that’s what you’re seeing. The reason is probably some bogus “for your own security” crap.
The question is: are they going to do something about it?

Debian operating system@lemmy.ml•#i386 machines running #Debian 12 Bookworm
1·1 year agoA possible option is to stick to Debian 13, but use a hand-built kernel, since Debian 13 still includes the i386 port. Of course, it also depends on your exact CPU and other hardware as well as what you want to run in it.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Anybody remember the brief era when kids would steal school computer mouse balls?
1·1 year agoYou make it sound like optical mouses were a no-brainer, but they were very much non trivial: it required both ingenuity and fairly sophisticated tech to make them work well.

Technology@lemmy.world•Even Apple finally admits that 8GB RAM isn't enoughEnglish
8·2 years agoMy main development machine has 8 GB, for what it’s worth. And most of the software in use nowadays was developped when 8GB was a lot of RAM

Le Monde Diplomatique? I also second the recommendation to diversify your sources: no single news source will let you know what’s “really” going on
