The US is so intertwined with global politics and economy (e.g. financial markets, digital services, …) that it’s not just THEIR problem. If they drift further into fashism, oligarchy and right authoritarianism, sooner than later there will be a point where most of the world will be fucked in the short and possibly in the long term.

We need to fight this fight from our side as well, otherwise we all will go down. Our countries need to start pushing back against it and WE need to push our countries to do so. Write letters, go on protests, vote! Otherwise we might miss our window of opportunity to bring this spiral of destruction to a halt.

If you have a fully open source product (with a permissive license) you can’t just “paywall” it, as FOSS licenses allow you to build and often redistribute the product.

When you have a fully open source product and want to build a valid business model from it, you have to work WITH your license. The OsmAnd team chose an interesting way to do this by “paywalling” the Playstore version “OsmAnd+”. But you still can get all the stuff, as it is open source.

A community-compiled version of the full OsmAnd+ named OsmAnd~ without Google Play services dependency is also freely available on F-Droid.

Personally, I love OsmAnd because of the power features. In the best sense “it works for me”. However, I would recommend OM to not-so-nerdy friends and family as it is just simpler to use and understand due to the fewer features.

I don’t think this is true in that sense. You can get the full experience for free by - either building it your self - or simply on FDroid. If you still use Gruesome Playstore, then yes, it is “soft paywalled”.

Or do you mean other features that are not even in the FDroid build? (Which could be some proprietary features.)

You could look into using 3rd party clients to view Lemmy. They often enhance the default behavior with additional features. E.g. Voyager (the one I’m using) has a “keyword filter”.

Unfortunately, the mouse is only sold in a keyboard/mouse bundle, but the “CHERRY STREAM DESKTOP RECHARGE” bundle might be something you would be interested in. Both keyboard and mouse have replaceable batteries and these suckers are built to last. The mouse is little bigger, so def. have something in your hand and it has super silent buttons. I especially like the type-feel of the keyboard. I am normally totally I to mechanical keyboards, but I can totally tolerate typing on it. 😉

Edit: Oh, and I forgot. You can recharge them with a USB-C cable. They also use off-the-shelve NiMH rechargeable batteries that you can get almost everywhere if you want to replace it in the future.

Yeah, trying to be a good example and hopefully an inspiration to others IRL. Also, talking to interested people warming them to the general ideas and explaining the concepts of veganism, hopefully removing some misconceptions and prejudices along the way.
