Gross practice. Companies would charge their employees money to wear more comfortable clothes. They’d often say it was a fundraiser. I have heard of people who did not want to or could not afford to participate getting chastised for not supporting kids with cancer.

In my family, over my lifetime, more people started working more hours outside the home. So choices were made when buying clothes to get items that required less work. Less hand washing. Less dry clean only. Less wash separately. But the clothes still had to look professional. I still have a “permanent press” cycle on my washing machine. I think it’s a relic from that transitional era.

I have seen the shift to more casual work clothes over my lifetime. I remember some places had a day or two of “casual” days. Sometimes employees would have to pay a few dollars to wear casual items. I really don’t remember when places transitioned to such casual clothing. I think I worked a lot for a couple of years, blinked my eyes. And everyone was wearing sweat pants. Is there anyone who was paying attention who can fill me in? What happened?

My cat is the most independent.

I liked middle school. People were nice. Teachers cared. We managed to have some fun too. it was a break from the constant bullying at the school before. They had mean teachers too. High school was pretty bad for me. So, while middle school wasn’t everything I hoped it would be. It was better than both what came before and what came after.

90% of the time I get called back immediately. Makes me feel like maybe there was actually someone available. They just made me jump through hoops

There is a recent-ish reprint of “The Manly Art of Knitting.” I imagine there are still copies out there. I’ve heard good things about the book and would take a look if I ever crossed pathed with it, despite no personal interest in cultivating manliness.

One time I went to the store to pick up a few things for diner. I went to pay and realized i didn’t have my wallet. The person in line behind me immediately told the cashier they were covering my order. I was very grateful.

Nope. Clothes seem to have more stretch and fewer natural fibers every year. Sizes have always been inconsistent. But i think the increased stretch and elastic has accentuated the problem. It also makes fabric wear out more quickly. In the last year, I have purchased sizes from 8-18. I don’t trust manufacturer measurements. I always measure and have returned many items that were much larger than stated. That’s something I have experienced going back many years though. I think measuring the clothes themselves is the way to go. But unfortunately not always possible

Maybe put them in front of a fan for a couple of days. I’d put a heavy book on top to keep them from getting wet hat “wind swept” look.
