  • I think Lashana Lynch killed her role (positive comment about her acting). I think the story was already facing an impossible climb in being adapted to the modern world.

The original movie showed that aside from the Jackal being better than competent government agents, there were also practical logistical difficulties trying to find one unknown bad guy in a liberal world. And the internet basically solved all of these.

    • Magical anonymous internet chat that can be carried around on a USB stick. At a minimum that’s a reboot of the computer to run on the USB stick.
    • A wealthy person being traced with publicly available information because I guess they hid their money trail themselves instead of letting a professional handle it. That’s boots on the ground investigative reporters at a minimum looking for a single slip up.
    • So many burner phones.
    • Forged passports that don’t just trigger an alert when the person doesn’t exist on the passport database.

  • No longer letting my family member rants about [insert today’s Russian propaganda] go unchallenged.

    • Crime is going up. Oh no, can you show me a chart with a source? Can’t be just something you find on the internet (they’re always ranting that you can’t trust the internet).
    • You can’t trust the weather reports. They’re just using the internet to make all that stuff up. Explain how the internet allows for a 100 fold increase in sensors that can report back to a centralized meteorology facility for number crunching
    • Ukraine shot first Explain a timeline of the Ukraine war
    • Moon landing was faked. (I actually like this argument the best because it’s been so thoroughly debunked)

    • High level government employees got vaccines from richer countries
    • Rich people got their names added to the high level employees list
    • Social distancing and telling everybody “good luck”
    • Third world situations tend to weed out immuno-compromised humans fairly efficiently. So long as the higher humans survive, command and control below management level typically has 2-3 backup employees ready to take the chair.
