Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Has there been any reports of election interference, arrests, threats today?
2·3 days agoThere’s this: The 9th Circuit (en blanc panel – subpanel of 11 judges) has paused a federal judge’s order prohibiting the Trump administration from threatening election officials with prosecution. The only way to counteract it now is to take it to the Supremes (which isn’t likely)
Edit: I guess not a big deal, but still causes confusion:
As for “what does this mean,” it means that, for now, there’s no court order in California barring Trump administration officials from “investigating” allegations of noncitizen voting (but also no order requiring California to do anything, either).
Just give me that children’s Dimetapp from before the 2000s… Self-roofied with a weird grape aftertaste.

42·7 days agoI keep seeing folks mention that at least it is a good and secure service why should I leave? this should be why: via: https://www.404media.co/manifestos-fear-and-loser-thinking-inside-protons-ai-reckoning/
Andy Yen, the CEO of Proton, had a message for an employee in the company’s security Slack channel who urged the company to at least take a few days to pentest newly written code before pushing it live. “That’s bullshit and loser thinking. Of course it’s possible to be fast and secure,” Yen wrote in the channel at the end of August. “Stop thinking always of how to be slower, and focus more on how to be faster.”

51·7 days agoSecurity is suspect because the CEO is pushing devs to release code (AI-generated) to production without testing.

Up until my mid-teens I ate almost all the same thing, but then I made a decision to try to be open to trying to eat new things and never stopped.

16·14 days agoI think Holtec mostly just makes storage containers for spent fuel. They’re not exactly simple, but orders of magnitude less complex than running a plant.
While a ship, the Lexx was primarily designed as a weapon that could destroy planets, so I’ll go for The Lexx.

2·14 days agoI just recently joined Lemmy; never had a redditt account. Have been using Mastodon for quite a few years now; only ever dabbled in twitter. I like that the fedi stuff seems more organic and less manipulated by algorithms, although, that also makes it easy to miss stuff as well. Still getting a feel for Lemmy and discovering interesting communities. My ultimate social platform was Google Reader (still miss my sharebros/gals. My primary social media after the demise of GR was the comment section, BBS, of BoingBoing – we had a mass departure after the publisher did some petty bans (started our own discourse instance)

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What movie terrified you as a child? Or what character?
2·15 days agoDon’t be Afraid of the Dark (1973) scared the crap out of young me… The little creatures lurking in the dark and dragging them away. My older sister reinforcing the fear with stories/teasing didn’t help. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don’t_Be_Afraid_of_the_Dark_(1973_film) I’m sure it would be laughable now, but my sister really knew how to push my buttons.
