  • We also need to be prepared to tax foreign entities and punish those who fail to pay in time with appropriate consequences (I.e. revocation of operation business licences within Canada, force inspection at border crossing of goods, geo lock web services and impose fines on those who don’t host large services within Canadian borders Heck demand that social media sites keep all data within Canadian boaders at all time)

We could also impose restrictions on exports ( only so many barrels of oil or Kiliowats of power per month can be exported ) add export licenses to everything under the Canada controlled goods program (hell everything could be a weapon in the wrong hands even car parts it’s dual use right) impose crazy rules about working in fields like aerospace or IT demand that all exported knowledge requires relicensing from canada like the us does with Thier EAR stuff make it hard to be employed as a us citizen in Canada.

Refuse to report banking status to us services for a while or remove any automation around it.

Walk away from copyright and patent agreements or make enforcement contingent on a companies or officer of the companies current taxable standing ( can only collect damages up to some fraction of a companies or officer or the boards taxable income in Canada)

Drop subsides for US car makers let European makers fill the voids if they can’t let Chinese brands move in.

shut down nexus impose visas at the border even if it’s for a couple days or weeks in the summer as a sign of what could happen. Close airspace to us originating flights on a whim one day randomly. Put a toll on the road from Alaska to the southern states heck put them on all borders. Hell just don’t maintain those routes and let time take its toll and let them become impossible. Or just put cops on those routes with insane ticket quotas for those routes and hit them hard for going 1km/hr over the limit. If they don’t pay on the spot hold them over night and arrange court dates as they are flight risks

All I’m saying is, if the status quo is to be interrupted it goes both ways

  • If the orange idiot goes through with it I hope the Canadian Government rolls out the list of tarrifs they used last time targeting states that supported this.

I’d also love to see the following on the list of retaliation tactics

Time to invalidate any and all us owned drug patents in Canada, and encourage generic companies to go hog wild

While we are at it reduce maximum damages from IP infringement claims from media agencies to a nominal 20-100 $ fee or lower in response

Regulations on foreign house ownership would be a popular thing to play with just not sure how. But could be funny to see any trump owned or trump family adjacent properties taxed heavily and foreclosed/ eminent domained

The government should also put in place road blocks to refuse to tell the IRS any banking details of any Canadian accounts and tell them to pound sand or take years individually replying manually to any requests to see any US citizen accounts in Canada. Why bother helping them collect taxes.

Also would love to see trump refused entry at the border for the lulz

Anyway hopefully smarter people have appropriate counter measures for this. Tit for tat sucks but hopefully embarrassing/ appropriate retaliatory responses.

  • Been ages since I had to recompile a Linux kernel to deal with hard real time (via RTAI) but I recall emc2 being a great alternative to all the fussing around recompiling as some one did all the work for that.

I also recall using this resource . Eventually I just made a class for the threads I was using to wrap POSIX and RTAI calls for periodic tasks and chose which was the underlying method on a compiler flag. If I was on my desktop I could proof of concept most things in POSIX and then test on the RTAI machine. If I need to revisit this again I may dust off my old class and add freeRTOS stuff to it so I can prototype on Linux then try to squeeze it on to an esp32.

  • @folkrav is right here

And I’ll posit that you likely wouldn’t like this ability to exist in the first place.

Let me walk you through a thought experiment. Any system that requires a verification step is likely tied to identity and putting up a gate to get in based on the identity or using it to get a token to access it ties you to that activity. Ok great let’s not let the kids see porn, but the exact same approach can be used to prevent or put a chilling effect on people seeking lgbt content, anti Vax content, unionization information, church gatherings, crypto schemes, academic research, Israel, Palestine, or anything really.

The internet was never intended to be a secure place it was intended to survive a devastating nuclear attack and keep information flowing. Tacking on arbitrary mortality gates is Orwellian and not how the internet was designed to function. Maybe these guys need to a seperate network (without blackjack and hookers) just for the content you want kids to see and not tell them about the internet till later because these proposed measures are like outlawing the letter q because you don’t like that it leads to the word question.
