Eh. I have half a foot in terminally-onlineland and half a foot in normie-land and I don’t use Facebook. One friend moving off Instagram got me to pull the trigger to do the same. It’s possible, and showing people you can and some steps can help make it less intimidating.

Social proof is a hell of a drug. Getting off Instagram was always a “yeah they suck, I barely use the app, but I do not really want to spend the energy” for me; then I saw a real life friend do a post about how they were getting off Instagram. I promptly did the same.

That’s always the problem when deciding whether to post something you did you think is good and that you want others to do more. How much would I possibly influence others to do the same (because my nobody ass followed my nobody friend in getting off Insta, we clearly do not have to be mega celebrities to put our small drop of influence in the proverbial bucket), vs how much backlash will I get in the vein of “why do you have to announce it and have a public privacy tantrum, you’re not that special boo” and “humblebrag much? nobody cares”. (I’m special to the group of people that cares about me, as I am sure everyone is to the group of people that care about them! And social media makes it easier to announce it to them instead of texting everyone individually, and if you don’t have a giant group chat… I do wonder what standards you have to meet before you can post online without being told “nobody cares”.)

Eh, I thought different moderation philosophies were allowed, and as far as I know excluding commercial news is different from the rest given I avoid most tech communities because of all the tech-related-but-not-about-the-tech-itself articles. But my avoidance also means I have not touched every tech community, so if there is one that shares this moderation philosophy I get it.

I clicked !tech@programming.dev and at least by the sidebar it seems to intend to be that, though not too active, and I had to go report an opinion piece I agree with that got tons of upvotes even though the rules say no opinion pieces.

Same, I’d prefer to see this from programming.dev. Subbed anyways, because aside from changing my wallpaper I left my PC at a totally default look and would like to pressure myself to change it by following this community.

I figure this community could benefit from an ad in the many Linux communities on Lemmy.

Might be worth telling the various datahoarder communities on Lemmy

taking apps meant for one thing and using them for something else is my favorite thing

My team and I have been working on this platform for a while now and we wanted to share it for those who might be interested.

The goal of GIGO Dev is to offer a learning platform that addresses all the challenges we encountered when we first learned to code.

The repo consists of all parts of the platform from the lib models to the frontend code. We wanted to open source our platform for people to be able to see how it works, provide feedback on what we can do differently, or even contribute!

We continue to work on it everyday and strive to always make it better.

I figured it would look more professional, and it would also let me separate the contributions I made with my more anonymous GitHub out—not too sure how closely they investigate your previous contributions and how good your code was.

I am guessing this was not a good choice, and I should have just continued using my more anonymous GitHub, or made the account as JSmith instead of JaneSmith.
