I’ve been taking a sabbatical essentially. Living off savings that was supposed to be for a down payment on a house (lol). Got to do a lot of traveling with the kids and I’ve been looking for a similar role elsewhere but haven’t secured anything yet. Thankfully, my wife still makes good money and we’re doing OK financially, but I’m not thrilled about my prospects in my field. It’s hard to be optimistic in a fascist AI hellscape.

I resonate so much with a good chunk of that. I legit left my job because I couldn’t take it anymore. My job while different went from negotiating multi-million dollar contracts, and securing pricing agreements with manufacturers to essentially being a spreadsheet jockey after a re-org. They wanted all the interesting parts of my job done by commodity management and reduced my role to something a fucking monkey could do, but asking for 47 different reports that essentially all had the same data just slightly different for dickheads 1,2, and 3 in the C-Suite, and overloading us with so much of it that it took 80 hours a week to complete. It was a fucking nightmare.

I went into a bathroom, and there was either a trans or CD person presenting as female using the urinal. It threw me off, and I thought I went into the wrong bathroom for a sec. Took me a second for my brain to realize, wait, that’s a urinal, so I’m definitely in the right place. Because I’m not a piece of shit, I laughed off the awkwardness of seeing a female using a men’s urinal and went about my day, but these conservatives who get all mad about trans women using the women’s room will 100% be just as outraged when they are in the men’s room and see one at a urinal.

I used to root phones and flash custom ROMs to get the stock android experience on the garbage phones Verizon would sell me. The point was to get less bloat, and a functional device that I could get to do what I want with it. Once there was a nexus phone compatible with my carrier, I moved to Google’s phones, and stopped tweaking the OS altogether. All Google has done over the years is remove useful features and try and shove AI down people’s throats. I’m now looking at options to degoogle my phone, and I’m not particularly fond of buying any flagship phone should this one die.

Last time I stayed at an Airbnb, all their pots were nonstick and scratched to shit. I made pasta a couple of times in the tea kettle. I try to avoid nonstick in general, but when being used communally, there is no fucking way I can trust that people have treated it right, and as much as my body craves Teflon as a fuel source, I will do everything in my power to avoid it, including cooking in a tea kettle.
