  • 2/3rds of my income goes just to paying rent/utilities at this point. I do have some money taken out of my check for retirement because I would be foolish not to, but at this rate it looks like retirement might not be in the cards for my generation at all. Even with the few extra bucks at the end of the pay period, it wouldn’t amount to much.

Every time I get a pay increase, it seems like the cost of living is right there on my heels, clawing back any significant gains I might have enjoyed.

  • How could it be described as anything other than caving? According to the leaked preliminary details, all he did was just secured Obama’s deal, but worse since at least Obama carved out provisions to ensure that inspections were being done to verify that Iran was not building a nuclear program. What we are getting is a pinky promise, leaving the door open to future bombings when the schizo USA decides to play world police again.

I’m also not convinced Charlie Brown has finally kicked the football here. Deal isn’t final until the ink is dry, and Pakistan will likely call out Israel for continuing to bomb Lebanon in violation of the ceasefire agreement.

  • Speaking from experience here, there are vastly more people employed just to build datacenters than there are to fully staff one. Hundreds of engineers, consultants, general contractors and construction laborers to build the datacenter versus maybe a dozen people at best to staff a football field sized datacenter. If datacenters go away those builders will still have jobs because they’ll just pivot to building schools or hospitals or whatever else is needed at the time. Heck, even the IT guys who work on the racks could pivot and find another role somewhere else.

The only people who will be out of a job when the AI bubble pops are the hucksters pushing it.
