You don’t understand. Lemmy, like all social media, runs on outrage. How are we supposed to hate the prison industry if what’s going on has a perfectly reasonable explanation? I need to feel hate with my morning coffee, because I need to feel something.
I used to be really active on Twitter. Everyone was there: my friends, people in my industry, people involved in my hobbies. When Musk bought it out everyone left. I tried to follow them to Bluesky and Mastodon but they mostly just quit posting. Between that and Reddit falling apart I don’t often use social media anymore.
Have you priced minivans lately? A base model Toyota Sienna starts at $39,000. Most people don’t want to spend $50,000 on a minivan when they can get a more fashionable SUV for less.
Blue. I choose blue. We are now one step closer to a new collider. You’re welcome.
Of all the horrible things on your list this is the worst. If people can’t get insurance they can’t get a mortgage. People can’t buy a house without a mortgage. Housing prices will collapse. And do you know who’s going to buy them for pennies on the dollar? Corporations, private equity, and billionaires. The economy will do a repeat the 2008 mortgage crisis, millions in the middle class will find themselves poor, many will be homeless.
It’s also the one most likely to happen because it’s already started.
