World News@lemmy.world•‘Canada is handing people over to ICE’: refugees rejected at border face US detentionEnglish
21·25 days agoI’m really not sure why you’re trying to demonize me and make assumptions about every view I could possibly have, without any evidence.
All I have said is that roving armed patrols, putting people in death camps and forcing them to drown at your border is not the same as legal, written and enforced policy, and that it’s dangerous to liken one to the other.
You’re free to attack immigration policy. I do too. Its simply maddening to me that we’re allowing the media to muddy the waters with right wing ideology in every conversion, normalizing it for the masses. The more we do that, the less we get to argue about actual policy decisions.
You are quite literally harming your cause, both by attacking an ally over pedantics and allowing immoral rhetoric into the conversation.

14·25 days agoYou’ve found so many arguments I didn’t make, while completely ignoring what I said.
Comparing literal rising Nazis to having an asylum policy is fucking insane. Stop.
The more we make these comparisons, the more normalized America’s “policy” becomes. Just like anything else in the media, it causes fatigue, then familiarity, then acceptance. This style of political firehosing is the cornerstone of the Trump administration and you’re perpetuating their success.
Attack the policy of western nations, don’t sane wash America by placing them anywhere fucking near any other western country in 2026.

924·26 days agoCanada is implementing sane immigration reform - it’s certainly not perfect, but comparing any facet of it to ICE is disingenuous and serves only to normalize the current state of American politics
To anyone downvoting this: respectfully, pay more attention. There is a global attack on immigration policy being perpetuated by the United States - it’s no coincidence that the conversation has shifted from US policy to immigration policy in every western country, basically overnight.
Maybe a bit too meta, but I’m really tired of people who are willing to accept that literally everything has gotten demonstrably and objectively worse in the past 30 years.
People are complaining because the world is going to shit and most of us have hit our breaking point.
You are an enabler OP

Crazy that we live in a world where you can watch the damage of demographic shifts in real time, and that’s still not enough to convince you that it’s a problem.
The modern world doesn’t scale down, and we have yet to figure out a solution.
