I recently had the same thinking about cocoricarte, it just feels unfair to use OpenStreetMap’s precious value without contributing back… Making money out of it is even worse of course.
I’m tired of this business model, I understand it’s part of the license deal and I deeply agree with the commons principles, but it just feels wrong to spread the knowledge between multiple private databases instead of just gather everything on the one that allows the use case in the first place.
It’s not about the license in this case, but about the admin overhead of auto-contributing changes (you need to set up a special account and write a detailed wiki page about what you’re doing).
Of course I get the point of the article, I just think this overhead should be taken into account when developing any app based on OSM, because imo they shouldn’t even think about not contributing back

I don’t know for other countries but here in France most of them are “Affichage libre”, which allows political and commercial posters.
