I hope they’ll do it, and in other cities too (at least in Europe, I can’t imagine this in u$ stupid country).

City Hall Conservatives […] said Vision Zero plan was about the mayor “carrying out [Sadiq Khan’]s anti-car agenda, rather than trying to keep Londoners safe”.

This is so close to being right. It is part of Khan’s anti-car agenda, but his anti-car agenda is the best thing about his time as mayor and key to the reason he’s been elected three times!

The fact is when you look at stats like this:

A spokesperson for the mayor said it was “startling” that SUVs were “77% more likely to kill a child if involved in a collision” [my emphasis]

    – it’s obvious that anyone in favour of allowing unrestricted 4x4s in cities is at this point functionally part of a death cult. This is before you get anywhere near the climate change argument. These stupid, pointless cars just kill people.

Unfortunately if you live somewhere with shit roads you kinda need the suspension travel and clearance. And you can’t exactly fit a lot of stuff in a Jimny or a Pajero Pinin.

If only automakers came out with off-road minivans or wagons, I can only think of 2 german manufacturers and swedes offering something like that.

The SUVs you see drive around in big cities are not capable off-road with their bigass alloy wheels and low profile street tyres. A real Range Rover (not the sport) or Land Cruiser can serve double duty, but that’s just about it.

Depends on the city really, mine is pretty big and I do see a bunch of land cruisers, pajeros, subarus of all sorts. A lot of Jimnys too which is nice, I’d hate for them to disappear

Are you Australian? Because those guys has some different needs than most other “western” countries. But I’m not really talking about Pajeros, Jimnys and other proper 4x4s, I’m talking about Chelsea tractors with low profile tyres and no low range that are bought by people who have no use for 4wd and just want to look “cool”

No but our city is notorious for having shit roads that barely last a year lol. I know what you’re talking about, just sharing my experience, we get plenty of those street suvs too

That’s a fine point, but this is /c/London. I’ve been on roads in Brazil where a 4x4 would’ve been great, if not 100% necessary. Not a problem in Tower Hamlets, though!

Yeah but the comment isn’t talking specifically about london, just SUVs in cities in general, that’s why I commented. They don’t make sense in London, I can agree on that

“Can I just say… can I just say… can I just say that this is so typical of a London mayor who has never had to drive from Cotswolds to Croydon in a single day to pick up their kids from their after school safari gym, and as a farmer I’m appalled the BBC would even give him the airtime to speak about his personal vendetta against car owners…”
