The Guardian has effectively got rid of 100 journalists. We actually leave the building next week. And shortly afterwards, it signed a syndication deal with OpenAI. Or as I think of it, it married its rapist

That’s from the tail end of Carole Cadwalladr’s recent TED talk called This is What A Digital Coup Looks Like.

I love Carole Cadwalladr but don’t let perfect be the enemy of good.

      1. Most of The Guardian funding comes from readers. I give money every year. But readers only aren’t enough to sustain it. They also need to look for other revenue sources.

      2. There is no evidence that she was fired specifically because Open AI requested it. That would be a major scandal and the entire newsroom would revolt.

      3. The Guardian remains an excellent newspaper. They won more journalism awards than any other UK paper.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think “reputable news source” needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
