today, i woke up with pain on the back of my neck and at first it was bad but then i felt better. right now i’m in bed, extremely scared because it could be als, i don’t want to pass away!! nobody in my family has had it, but still, als cases are random. i’m mexican and amab, i’m seriously scared. i’m 20 years old and stephen hawking was diagnosed at 21, am i going to get it?? maybe the neck pain is the first symptom…

    If you’re that concerned, see a doctor instead of asking strangers on the net. Your GP will have much more insight than any of us. That said, I tend to agree with what everyone else has said, it sounds like awkward neck pain. If it keeps up you could do things as simple as getting a new pillow or consult a physician.

    Waking up with random neck pain is just a thing that happens sometimes. It also will happen more often as you get older. I wouldn’t be worried unless it was a very consistent thing.

    Having one morning of neck pain and lumping to ALS as a 20 year old (Usual onset 45–75 years and Prevalence: 4.4/100,000 living individuals) indicates more towards anxiety than anything else to me.

    It sounds like you slept in a weird position or strained it in some way in the previous 24 hours.
