I saw a post about how nerds are resistant to advertising, which is bs imo considering how obsessed many nerds to products. But then, I do not seem to get affected - I usually do not desire to buy a product, and only seek out what to buy when needed.

That is, I feel like adverts do not work on me. Is this an illusion? Or maybe, is it that many adverts are made to appeal to neurotypicals?

Fast food does this to me. Ill be minding my own buisness and bam the intrusive thought comes in “i could go for x right now”. X being thr fast good that taste like nothing with sauce on it that makes me feel sick everytime i eat it.

That was not a product of my rational concious. That was a desire i was given to me. I hate it so much.

I mean most of my decisions are heuristical because most dont matter, but compound them together and subvert the simple decision framework we use for most decisions and you can see how advertising works.

As an exercise make a goal to oppose something you dont like about your buying habits and try to adhear to it. Its overwelming sometimes. Almost none of the market is made to be navigated with rational analysis. The information overload on junk terms and barren land scape of facts is aweful.
