Like that one review on metal archives “Death metal riffs in prog packaging”. Anyway, this actually sounds pretty good, got me headbanging through the whole thing. The vocal style is just, is, like it doesn’t change. Just standard vocals, but oh well.
Highlights
- Obsidian Mantra - The Demon-Haunted World
- Obsidian Mantra - False Spirituality
- Obsidian Mantra - The First Disbeliever [Btw does the vocalist say “The truth I shall seek, I shall not believe”] Because I couldn’t find any lyrics.
I’d love something like this, not Opeth though, I’ve been liking Katatonia’s early stuff quite a lot, so something along this and early Katatonia.
This is nice, thanks!
Thanks for the suggestion, never heard of this band but I’m digging it 🤘
I’m gonna check their latest album too
About the vocals, they’re not the greatest but I’ve heard so much worse from vocalists who are only vocalist (not playing any other instrument).
Being able to play intricate guitar parts while doing vocals is impressive enough to me that I never judge vocalits who are also guitarist/bassist/keyboardist/drummer/whatever
EDIT : vocals seem to have improved on the latest album (less monotone)
Ayyyyy no problem!
Yeah I’ve always felt that it’s really difficult to play an instrument + sing, so maybe I came off a bit harsh, but I still liked them, and like I said the record is amazing. I guess I’ll check their latest album too!
