First of all, Welcome! I’m genuinely glad you decided to join!

That said,

Swearing on Lemmy is actually mandatory and any posts found not containing any swearwords will be promptly removed and you will be permanently banned. These communities strive to reverse the damage done by algorithmically induced self censorship by requiring all participants to swear as much as possible.

Also, anyone censoring non swearwords like “dead” or “sex” that traditionally incur negative algorithmic interactions will also be sacked in addition to previously listed repercussions.

Thank you.

Fuck.

Good God do I fucking hate the lobotomisation of our language to please algorithms that were made to please advertisers. The world is messy and gross if you want real people talking about the real world don’t fucking try to hamfistedly sanitise everything they say.

Yeah, that was a bit too much. It’s good to keep it nice but colorful language is called that for a reason, life is more beautiful with color.

i think you would just mark it a spoiler, click edit and then highlight the image and then at least on the web client its the second to last formatting option the little diamond with a ! in the middle.

but also, fucking… jesus christ dude 🤦‍♀️.

General note for spoilers: ACTUALLY MENTION WHAT IT IS YOU ARE CONCEALING. State which season, which movie, which franchise, SOMETHING. Don’t make me have to peek at the spoiler to determine whether or not it is something I have seen already, or if it is appropriate to view in my current setting.

it’s explained in book 6 and 7 of Harry Potter that Dumbledore lives a lonely life where he kills what he loves and enriches the lives of those he sees as lesser. His story is akin to Harrison Bergeron, but far less sympathetic as he was a gay nazi in the 40s

          Shit

Hmm. We need a NSFW content format that is like spoiler text but like for NSFW stuff in a SFW thread?

Nah I don’t know I dont like that either

Here’s an example. Make sure the image link is within the spoiler content before the second set of 3 colons.

          this spoiler contains an image

also, call out trolls and shills - lemmy doesn’t have inauthentic behavior detection mechanisms, and it’s really easy to evade bans by creating accounts on a dozen instances.

If they act like a troll, fair enough to call them a troll.

Yk i was insanely sceptical regarding the whole “but it probably has like fuckall users” part of Lemmy, but it feels miles less pretentious and inauthentic than reddit ever did. Wild how much more pleasant it is.

My main hopes for Lemmy really are that we manage to get a large enough userbase that more niche things arent excluded and forced to go to reddit, and that is isnt censored.

As much as i dont like some viewpoints from some groups (like the people supporting russia in ukraine, trump supporters, general trolls), i think censorship is more damaging than productive. I just hope that we can have nice things and it doesnt turn into a cesspool of either the far left or far right circlejerking eachother.

I doubt we’d ever have censorship here on Lemmy based on my understanding on how it works. If one instance starts censoring, people would just move to/make a new instance which is all still connected.

      Unless I’m fucking misinformed?
