Summary

Northwest Naturals has issued a voluntary recall of its Feline Turkey Recipe raw frozen pet food due to a positive test for highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), or bird flu.

The recall follows the death of a domestic cat linked to the product, raising concerns about potential transmission to humans.

While the risk remains low, health officials advise against consuming raw meat products and limiting contact with sick or dead animals.

Last I heard, early numbers were reporting a 100% fatality rate in cats. Doubtful it’s still 100%, but that goes to show that it’s exceptionally dangerous to our friends of the feline persuasion. I’d previously been giving my cat freeze-dried chicken hearts as an iron supplement with the added benefit of dental health…not so much these days.

There was an article posted the other day about a cat sanctuary, where all the cats got bird flu. A few of them did survive.

Does anyone know if canned cat foods tend to be raw or cooked? I dont use this brand, but one of my cats has to eat a particular prescription diet for health reasons, and the limited options I have all are canned and contain some chicken from what I can see, this getting into the cat food supply and being seemingly so lethal to cats has me concerned about him.
