DSA is pretty big despite the establishment’s refusal to acknowledge their existence. Most of the DemSoc candidates getting elected (Mamdani included) are DSA-affiliated or endorsed.

Technology@beehaw.org•‘Nightmare fodder’: Roku’s AI slop channel is even worse than expected
5·5 days agoIt’s 0% porn. It’s corporate-approved and ‘safe’ AI slop. Not even something you can fap to in self hatred.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Job offer at digital forensics company - am I overreacting?
7·5 days agoI was in a very similar situation a couple years ago, I was scouted by a recruiter for Axon (who make body cams and tazers). It was a bump from my current role, but I realized that if I was struggling before even taking the role then either
- I’d be struggling even worse after taking it, which would make me miserable
Or
- I’d realize that I wasn’t struggling with it anymore, and that’d make me really miserable.
Ignore the people telling you to take the job as some kind of infiltrator/ insider/ conscientious objector: you’re not going to change or dismantle the company from the inside, you’re just going to end up being constantly stressed and miserable each day until you eventually quit. The better solution is to fine a role somewhere that you feel actively helps people.
It was also just about hating women in general, as their suggested “improvement” shows.

I have a 2020 Mini Cooper, and we took it in for service and got a loaner 2026 Mini, and it has this massive, ugly touchscreen.
Look at these gorgeous physical toggles! And even more overhead! All gone! FFS!

Privacy@lemmy.ml•EU Age Verification Project Mandates Hardware-Bound Attestation
7·11 days agoHe had a duress password, and told it to a border agent (who had no warrant, but that is no longer legally required for border checks), which then wiped his phone.
He was targeted for being part of the Stop Cop City protest movement (and they were likely looking for contacts), and now the feds are claiming that because he could have had anything, he should be allowed to be charged with possession of whatever they can think of (I.e. they already tried to claim in a press conference that he may have had CSAM, because they couldn’t search it to prove he didn’t).

4·11 days agoWhich they, as the governments, can choose to legally treat as the same thing. “You are guilty of whatever someone does with your account” is not a new concept, it’s just one that most places have chosen to reject. It can always be overridden, such as for the Palestine Exception.

Technology@beehaw.org•AI-generated stories rated better quality than human-written ones, study finds
4·12 days agoLuckily, revolutions have never required the majority of a populace to actively participate in to succeed, just a majority going “meh, sure”.
But yes, I am personally also very worried that we’re reaching a point with technology that state surveillance and violence will both be too easily applied and too pervasive for the revolution to overcome.

Technology@beehaw.org•AI-generated stories rated better quality than human-written ones, study finds
2·12 days agoI think this is actually advantageous to us in a way, because clearly AI is something of a system shock to many people right now, whereas in a hundred years it may have not been nearly as apparent as the danger it is (and I don’t mean LLMs, I mean AI in general, especially for surveillance and weapons).

2·12 days agoI don’t think it’s a doomer comment at all, I think the last paragraph is trying to tell you without saying the word “datacenter” to go look up the addresses of data centers.

Capitalists hate nothing more than actual competition, so of course the establishment Dems want to ensure that their actual base relies on the scraps of political aid they provide. Republicans aren’t their competitors when it comes to progressive voters, progressives are.
