  • I had a horrible experience with psychosis earlier this year. The thing I never grasped before is how none of it appears like a hallucination like adventurous people might have experienced in other contexts. The whole thing appears real and totally credible. I had the spotlight effect and had become convinced there was some kind of conspiracy against me where the neighbours had dispatched assassins to my flat.

I seriously doubt someone in the throws of a psychotic episode is able to consent in a meaningful way.

  • Why not sell it as a big laser quest game? #YesAllMen /jk

Women are slightly more than half the population (51%?) and experience the most harrassment. I think something needs to be done but maybe not a dystopian measure. How about a shared register of dangerous men made by competent devs (not outsourced) that don’t leave the s3 bucket open to the intetnet unencrypted? Or - given that the police are useless - make the process of getting a restraining order more straight forward, require less evidence.

  • Accidentally doxxed myself the other day on IRC by repeating my Dad’s favourite dream anecdote. A psychicatrist (or philosopher depending on when he tells it) has a dream that he’d invented the funniest joke of all time, was famous and doing tours of SNL and others just telling the joke. He woke up in the night remembering it and it was just gibberish when he looked in the morning. I said I wasn’t sure if my Dad had just made it up. Someone looked for sources online and the only source was my Dad’s blog which had pictures of me at my wedding on it. Trying to keep this vague to avoid doxxing myself again. My life is basically Big Fish where my Dad loves to tell tall tales like this. Fortunately not too affected by this foible unless I mention it online. Looking forward to seeing the psychiatrist/philosopher at his funeral to be proved wrong like the end of that movie.

  • Aside from bug/issue spam where maintainers are stuck dealing with bogus problems raised by LLMs and posted by lazy humans, I don’t think there ought to be an issue. Maintainer burnout is no joke though; a bad day topped off with a bogus bug report might be the straw breaking a camel’s back.

The other issue is licensed code with stricter copy left protections can be stolen for training data and unwittingly regurgitated into a code base elsewhere. Unfortunately this would require lawyers to actually bring these cases to court, which is not happening at the moment. Seems more manageable as an issue though since there is a path to resolving it. I think I need to make an EFF donation to help with that process.
