Aren’t most farmers voting for team red? It’s easier to change whose produce I buy this weekend than it is to change my phone’s OS.

I have quit reddit, Instagram, Dropbox, and dropped down to a free tier of Google since the boycotts began though. It’s a work in progress to be rid of all commercial us tech.

Stop voting for politicians who want to get rid of existing bike lanes (Doug Ford - Ontario, Canada), stop voting for politicians who oppose high density residential zones (gestures at most of the developed world), and vote for politicians who have the best public transportation plans. Get involved with city politics a la the annoying people in parks and rec. It works. Donate to and get involved with your local progressive organizations (shout out to https://www.progresstoronto.ca/).

Probably a dumb question, but here it goes-

Escape velocity is the velocity needed to escape the moon/planet’s gravity without any further propulsion, right?

A stone thrown upwards would slowly lose its velocity and then start falling back because there’s no engine to keep it going.

But an “ideal spherical bird” could keep going at a constant velocity of 20m/s to escape whatever planet it wants to leave, right?

Does the escape velocity really matter here? (Assuming that all other issues like lack of air are ignored)

I man, the Montreal product protocol absolutely succeeded at protecting and eventually repairing damage to the ozone layer. So, if nothing else, that one’s a win on multiple levels.

Not integrating the tools that the users want to use is how you end up in a situation 10 years down the road where people say “oh, oss-version-of-my-favourite-tool doesn’t have A, B, and C so I can’t use it” and lose another gen of users.

Eh, they have to drive on the same shitty roads, be stuck in the same traffic, breathe the same air, and on and on… sauce: been there, done that.

But those have a positive impact on society.

Waiting periods - I’m in Toronto, so I may be biased as the situation varies dramatically from one place to another. Yes, there’s some waiting period compared to private hospitals in India.

If I have to see my family doctor, appointments are 1-2 weeks away. If you go to an ER for something that doesn’t need an ER you’ll end up waiting for over 12 hours while people who need immediate attention get priority (think heart attack, stroke, road accident etc).

There’s no viable in-between, so non-emergency urgent requirements fall through the cracks and lead to a ton of frustration and annoying wait times. Eh: broken bones, high fever etc. where you’re not actively doing so ER deprioritized you but you can’t wait for 2 weeks to see your family doctor either.

I don’t have experience with major issues like biopsies, mri etc and I’ve heard mixed opinions about timelines for those - a lot of the negative reviews were from the covid restrictions era though.

All that said, dentists are not a part of ohip. I paid using a combo of private insurance and cash. My dentist (55+ y/o - semi retired) works five hours a day, three days a week. He is not under any pressure. He prescribed opioids for pain because that’s the norm.
