4·1 day agoThank you for the tag. I can confirm that both @petru@futurology.today and @areetx@lemmy.world appear to be a part of the same harassment / vote manipulation circle, and have been banned + content removed.
I also checked for downvotes in the past 24 hours, and those two are the only accounts that match the pattern. Looking through the data, AGM does not appear to be related to this circle. From what I can see, AGM is a regular user that coincidentally downvoted some comments on that other post where this started. Please don’t tag their user account, as they don’t seem to be involved in this.
I am sorry that this is happening to you, and I’ve passed on the method I used to identify these accounts to the rest of our team.
I’ll include the relevant parts of your other comment below, but remove it to untag the other user:

Technology@beehaw.org•The blue light from your phone isn't ruining your sleep
3·1 day agoThey explain where the confusion comes from in the first two paragraphs.
Different wavelengths of light do affect some biological processes, and circadian rhythms are affected by light. From what I understand, there is some consensus that the brightness of the light source can affect sleep. There is no consensus on whether some wavelengths of light are better than others, but it was a reasonable thing to explore.
Welcome!
For the rules, could you use different formatting? A lot of users use mobile apps, and some of them don’t format markdown the way Lemmy does. The spoiler tag in particular doesn’t get rendered in a lot of them.
For example, this is what I see in Boost:

Perhaps you can do something like
## Rules 1: 😇 Be Nice! - Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: **friendly** 2: 👶 Keep it at PGWhich will format like this
Rules
1: 😇 Be Nice!
- Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly
2: 👶 Keep it at PG
You could also shorten some of them to make it more likely that people will read them. For example, moving this to the bottom of the rules section, or taking it out entirely:
Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanantly banned from posting.
I also liked the old sidebar’s guidance on “complete stories” because it sums up what this community is intended for and differentiates it from “comics” and “memes”. I don’t know if it needs to be stated explicitly, but you could potentially include it right at the top with the description line.
I’m also happy to help out if the moderation load gets too much to handle. Feel free to add my LW account if at any point the team could use more hands: https://lemmy.world/u/otter

Canada@lemmy.ca•EV giant BYD accused of forced labour violations at European factory
3·3 days agoThank you
After looking through the records from our side, we have banned the following accounts:
@sxybaka@lemmy.cafe@battousai@lemmy.zip@ivar@progamming.dev@wildnessreshuff@lemmy.world@gradationstwope@lemy.lol@tactsquick@sh.itjust.works@lamdelille@ttrpg.networkemkata2564@futurology.today. We also flagged an additional account internally to keep an eye on moving forward.Sorry for not being able to deal with that sooner. However, in the future please don’t engage with the accounts as you have done in this thread. It’s reasonable to leave a public comment to call them out, but it doesn’t really help anything to engage with them further than that. You also run the risk of looping in legitimate users who are not a part of the vote manipulation circle.

linuxmemes@lemmy.world•When texlive is updated… (openSUSE TW, 2029 updated packages)
4·3 days agoIt was a full replacement for me, but I was only using it for personal use.
If you need a unique and specific package, you might have trouble finding it since the LaTeX ecosystem has been around for decades longer. The other drawback would be collaboration and interacting with journals, where the people that grew up with LaTeX might be resistant to changing to something new. I’m not personally in the research side now, so I can’t comment on it much further. I would assume that adoption also varies by the field of research.

This is also a great way to dox yourself. With a number of platforms that do this, opening the link will greet some users with “see what else USERNAME is doing”
So if you share a reddit post with a family member, they might learn your Reddit username. Likewise if you share a tiktok or instagram post on reddit, then people might see your real name.
Sharing from the app will create a different URL, where you can’t just snip off the end to clean it up. You have to resolve it first
allowed to refuse these orders
In practice this rarely happens because of how difficult and uncertain the process is. Especially for those at lower levels

emkata2564@futurology.today, the downvotes no longer register for communities on our instance but they do seem to show up for those on other instances. We will put together a few messages to various admins to let them know to ban those accounts and keep an eye out for similar signups.
