Climate@slrpnk.net•Ocean temperatures in recent years (video)English2·5 hours agoI improve manufacturing efficiency for a living, but sometimes worry that we’re running into the Jevons paradox. The average person seems to unconsciously but correctly assume that the manufacturing sector can just deal with any environmental regulations.

4·1 day agoExperience demonstrates that there may be a slavery of wages only a little less galling and crushing in its effects than chattel slavery, and that this slavery of wages must go down with the other.

Climate@slrpnk.net•Ocean temperatures in recent years (video)English4·1 day agoI’m kinda similar. I think it helps because you need to show people what a greener world would actually look like. The train is less intimidating if a coworker can answer all your questions.
We can get rid of all the data centers and everyday life would be pretty much the same. With cars it’s another story, and the average person has less imagination than you’re imagining.

That’s nice to hear, thank you. I got married right before Tinder and was jealous of how much easier it seemed. Now reading these comments/article, the easy was the problem.
Let me filter the bots, trolls, and creeps myself. I don’t need a rent-seeking middleman for that.
(My wife’s pickup line was trolling the shower curtains in my photo)
How does any of this impact the likelihood of loving their kids?
I’ve been married for a long time too and we met on the greatest dating website of all time: Craigslist Personals.
You entered your gender, age, a written segment, and an optional photo. No algorithm, no matching. Everything written was searchable and published via RSS. All communication went through email. No app, no subscription, and the only ads were sex workers.
In the context of this article, it forced the user to engage by reading people’s blurbs instead of just swiping for brain chemicals like Candy Crush. You felt like you were talking the other humans and the website was just where you went to meet them.
If such a site were recreated today, users would want to run the RSS feed through a slop rejection filter.

2·5 days agoBut in reality we don’t get that collective bargaining benefit at all because the employer doesn’t represent our interests. They’re getting the entire surplus.
Imagine a corrupt union, that bargains on your behalf but takes nearly all the surplus. Your employer is even worse than that.
