The people you’ve seen are likely enthusiasts. A small minority of the millions of users. The vast majority probably never leaves game mode.

It’s not the “latest” Pixel generations, devices as old as the Pixel 4 receive extended support (although it’s obviously not recommended) and that’s mostly because Google does not support them. This will be greatly improved moving forward, since Google has promised much longer update cycles for new devices.

I wouldn’t be so sure. There’s a vested interest in NOT shipping them outside the EU. It’s called planned obsolescence. Just looks at Macs and OCLP. It’s so easy to keep older Macs updated that it’s actually able to be done by some random developers in their free time (not to trivialize this effort, just to say that it would be extremely trivial for Apple as the developer of the OS and one of the most profitable companies in the world to do it). And yet Apple does not ship these updates to them. Why? Because they want you to buy new shit and they know not doing so will render them virtually useless in a short time.

1. Linux is still a very small marketshare on workstations.
2. Pretty much every server runs Linux and is probably much more likely to be attacked than a workstation.
3. Lots of very profitable companies that run these servers need high security, so they will invest as much as is strictly necessary.
4. Everything is open source and auditable by anyone.

The stats come from webpages, something a Steam Deck is unlikely to ever see, or at least not very often, so I would say it has almost nothing to do with Steam Deck, other than maybe exposing more people to Linux.

The unfortunate reality of an app like this is that it requires a level of privacy that few are equipped to utilize.

The big problem with anything not Google or Samsung is, as it’s always been, software support. You get 2 or maybe 3 years of updates and then the device is trash. So you can save a buck on the short term but it will cost you more in the long run and you’ll have shitty devices all the way along anyway.

You can buy a 2 year old Pixel for $2-300 and it will last you another 4-5 years (unless Google remotely nukes your battery).

Even if they were able to match a print to a nozzle (which they won’t be because it’s a wear item that’s constantly changing), nozzles are cheap and replaced often. You replace them in 2 minutes.

There are no legitimate concerns outside of iOS. The dev doesn’t know what they’re talking about. Apple and Google have identical privacy flaws in their notifications. The difference is only 1 platform allows you to use a different notification system entirely. And only 1 platform allows you to download apps without logging who is doing it.

Gov can’t really do anything about it. Bitcoin was designed to be gov agnostic. They can tell you it’s illegal but there’s also really no way for them to know (if you’re not dumb).

Hell there are entire unregulated black markets on the dark web.
