Flooding “Lemmy” with reposts from Reddit will make “Lemmy” look like a “tardy clone of Reddit with less discussion”. Why stick with a repost platform if you can get the same content but more and earlier with Reddit? New Reddit frontend still remains browsable without login (maybe with some irritation, but anyway).

One has to act differently. To get to the sources first (or, at least before Reddit, at least sometimes). RSS feeds of publications (already worked on in PieFed), microblogging support: compatibility with Mastodon (available on MBin and now on PieFed), already existing bot comms reposting from Hacker News and Lobste.rs (both these sites have no subs and crossposting to a comm may have sense…), reposting e.g. art from Mastodon, Bluesky, cara.app…

PyLova is a fork of PieFed and flairs and tags are their shared feature.

Many of these probably need some custom software features but they should not break compatibility with existing fediverse that much. Here, one can make a platform fully dedicated to sport(s), yet fully compatible with other parts of 'verse.

• Let users set their followed disciplines, teams, and maybe even announce it? Groups for fans of specific side?
• More seamless live-posting during events. Events are already used by e.g. Mobilizon and PieFed and one could from event page come to a prepared live feed (input box already prepopulated with appropriate hashtags as they tend to be predictable, /kbin-style attributing federated posts via tags to these feeds, etc.).
• “Fan’s treasure” or „skarb kibica”, like it’s called in Poland. All must have information on the season’s athletes, teams and pitches/tracks/whatever. Here, it could be done via wiki.
• Leverage of APIs (many of which are free) for showing results, etc.
• Integration with external video platforms. I doubt, that big sport is going to be broadcast via PeerTube or Owncast, but even some high profile events are available on e.g. YouTube. During every year’s 24 heures du Mans, several racing teams set up live streams from their cars for publicity. If users could watch these streams (and switch between them) and comment events on the track via our federated site’s account, this could even work, at least for this kind of event?

Live event posting should be compatible more with microblogging, Lemmy-like discussion works more for periods between or just after the match.

Mastodon excels in updates. If a niche is alive on Mastodon, then you will get news from it before Lemmy. Especially in infosec, or (if you are from Europe, especially from Germany or the Netherlands) local news.
In a way, shitposting is also freer on microblogging, without Threadiverse’s pigeonholing into different magazines/communities

The discussion may have worse UX. Only selected alternative frontends (like phanpy.social) have got nested threads like here and until recently, replies were delivered only to replier’s follower instances, resulting with users not seeing all the discussion and inconsistent threads between instances.

MBin has embraced C4 and has got no single maintainer nor BDfL. It is a fork of /kbin (RIP), whose author (a Pole), Ernest, nobody had a problem with.

Another Polish creation, Prismo, is technically older than /kbin, or even Lemmy, and strikes back! Prismo is more of a Hacker News/Lobste.rs clone than Reddit one (despite less minimalistic looks), and got rid of magazines/communities, preferring to maintain smaller, topical instances, with hashtags being main tool to filter posts by topic. Prismo’s federation is under work: it works mainly with Mastodon (and maybe other microblogging) and MBin.

Unfortunately, his account has been suspended, not freezed (which would retain the account - but simply prevent him from using it), so he cannot migrate his followers to another instance.

Also unfortunate, that a pick-your-poison moderation policy choice remains apparently a brand new sentence for any “normie”.

Not at all. Audit log with moderation decisions technically exists, but is visible only to admin and moderator, and contains only actions by local staff.

Yes, it is fully compatible with Lemmy, plus:

• PeerTube compatibility - you can subscribe to channels, watch videos, vote and comment them,
• feeds (essentially multireddit),
• flairs, both for posts and users,
• events and polls,
• following people, e.g. from Mastodon.

PieFed is opinionated by default, so in place of flagship piefed.social I will rather recommend piefed.zip as it federated more widely than former (just like lemmy.zip) and removes much of default roadblocks.

Or you can try Quokk.au, which apparently made some improvements in their fork of PieFed.

Bluesky is harmless to Threadiverse. ATmosphere nas got no Reddit alternative.

No MBin instance is flagship one. Largest 3 of them are:

• made by a Mastodon instance admin (infosec.exchange). (Several other Mastodon admins tried to run a /kbin instance too. All shared the fate of forum.fail, fitting its name :D)
• Spanish, a relative latecomer
• by Interstellar dev.

Neither /kbin nor MBin call(ed) image post an “article” And an unpopular opinion: “magazine” fits more as name for sub than “community”. Especially when all content is posted just by one used for own, curiosity, entertainmment or something.

Fun fact: its creator made Prismo, which was a federated link aggregator even before Lemmy. Unfortunately, Prismo content never made it to Lemmy as former ceased to exist and latter federated only later.

I’m not sure, though, if all the features are available with Lemmy.

I tried to subscribe to a PeerTube channel on Lemmy, but it looks that it stuck on “Subscribe pending”. However, copy-paste of a video URL works, and I was able to watch and comment the vid using Lemmy.

Check your output as it may be less accurate than your effort.

AI is able to extensively describe a photo, like these published on !pics@lemmy.world , but fails at seeing, what part of it is actually important, or recognising a point of a meme. It will save you many keystrokes, but probably will still need to be manually corrected.

Both Mastodon and Lemmy (and Mbin) expose an API, which can be used to develop an alternative client (for e.g. mobile). This allows even for several alternative front-ends, like Elk, Phanpy and pl-fe for Mastodon (and Pleroma and Akkoma and some Misskey forks and several projects for single-user-instances - all of these extend Mastodon API in some way), or Photon, mlmym and Blorp for Lemmy. GoToSocial (made for single-user-instances) does not provide any webUI, pointing to these alternative front-ends. Lemdro.id even swapped its interface for Photon.

Technically one is able to develop a Fediverse instance software which would provide both Mastodon API (likely with extensions) and Lemmy API. With e.g. microblogging (and maybe events?) used via pl-fe and Threadiverse content more easily available via Photon or Blorp? But I am not aware of any project like that.
