Welfare is not socialism. Socialism is a broader system with a worker state and public ownership of the commanding heights of the economy. Regulations without a worker state and without public ownership of the commanding heights is always twisted in a manner that either protects capital or entrenches it. The European social democracies all rely on imperialism for their safety nets because they do not have socialism.

8·3 days agoThat’s why I am asking what counts as “world-changing,” as most people would consider the first man in space to be world-changing.

17·3 days agoVostok 1 was the capsule that contained Yuri Gagarin, the first man in space. All of these were critical advancements in space flight and science. What is the criterion for “world changing” that doesn’t include the numerous critical advancements in space?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What thing would be nice to have but can't have it because we can't trust people?
11·3 days agoSocialism has always worked. Power is not a supernatural corrupting force, nor is socialism especially weak to corruption as compared to capitalism. Socialism has been a tremendous advancement everywhere it has been established, even in the face of foreign siege. The idea that all systems are the same in effect is an abstraction that is entirely unrelated to the material reality of socialism as compared to capitalism.

61·3 days agoWhat better solution is there? Why should the daily violence of capitalist exploitation and imperialism, and the fascist paramilitary body ICE, be thought of as a problem to be solved through the systems that prop up and enable them in the first place?

Same with using CCP instead of CPC.

1·5 days agoWhy not? The basis of creating such a line is to undermine and discredit the Socialist Market Economy by pretending it’s against Marxist analysis. This becomes the basis of discrediting China itself among the left.

World News@lemmy.world•A new Comintern: How the Kremlin lures Western “socialists” into the Russian armyEnglish
1·5 days agoHoxhaists call themselves as such, it isn’t really derogatory. “Dengist” itself is meant to be derogatory as it’s meant directly to draw a line between Marxism-Leninism and Deng’s policies, when there isn’t such a line in reality.
No, I am not Russian, and taking a racist stance immediately is absurd.
Ukraine is day by day losing ground, and is running out of people willing to fight, resorting to conscription and even kidnappings. This is no mere “misinformation,” OSINT mapping channels continue to make it clear that Russia is steadily gaining ground. Moreover, Ukraine lacks the ability to continue to spread out this war, as quantitative losses build up, qualitative leaps in war development continue. What seems to be a slow encroachment on Russia’s part comes with decreasing capabilities on Ukraine’s side to match this, resulting in Kiev’s desparate attempts to turn this into a broader war by targeting Iranian ships.
Ukraine is holding none of the cards right now. The front line is giving away beneath their feet day by day, and are going to end up as a rump state with disastrous demographic collapse that the EU will be forced to prop up in the years following the war. The ones most hurt by this war are the Ukrainian working classes, the compradors in power in Ukraine are largely safe, and Russia is steadily achieving all of its stated aims.
How is Ukraine winning?
You’re drawing a hard line within a class, which is more of an obfuscation of class analysis than a coherence towards it. Further, yes, both the WPK and CPC do engage with and are representative of the broader working classes.

China has not developed into communism yet. Socialism is a transitional status between capitalism and communism.
