Pretty much.
I worked in tech and there’s a lot of morally gray things.
For example: the law is pretty clear on what a company should and shouldn’t store as data. Yet every year, tech companies violate it. A few even get lawsuits because of how bad they did it. Thousands don’t.
The engineers (many who only want to do the right thing) see it pretty clearly. Don’t leak shit. Don’t give out personal info. Secure that shit. Extremely clear guidelines.
But, from our higher ups, we are constantly told “ah that doesn’t apply to us” and follow whatever the marketing/analytics/data team wants.
Been this way for decades.

1·11 months agoThe cost of medical education is so high, America currently imports doctors from other countries. 1 in 5 doctors, according to the stats.
With the way we treat immigration, expect that number to drop significantly. And we have doctors fleeing.
Add that to having some of the most incompetent government officials who are propping up chemicals companies and disregarding societal health – we are looking at a time bomb.

9·11 months agoI don’t think so.
When my city had a soda tax, every fucking store put a sign out calling it a war on poor people tax. But it was a $0.10 increase on sugary drinks to add to the educational budget.
Or maybe it is illegal but I live in a shit hole country.

2·11 months agoHey, you’re like me. I HATED soup for decades. Can soup BS was disgusting. Soup on the side of my burger, gross.
Then I went to a real soup place. Like all they did was soup. Like professional level soup that’s $8 a cup or $12 a bowl.
My god - it was incredible. I now understand the Soup Nazi bit of why anybody would tolerate that behavior.
I went from clean shaven anti-souper to a god damn soup coke fiend.

My pro open-source teacher in HS pushed for all of us to use the handful of Linux computers and recommended GIMP over Photoshop. He even said we can download GIMP at home for free.
Back then, searching for GIMP gave you bondage suits.
And because we were immature fuckwads, we played real hard into that joke, to a point where the principal had to send a letter to parents about how to actually find free open-source software with links.
I don’t know what half those things are but I laughed at the words “Breast Mints”. No idea what it means.
