They aggressively fight against ad blockers and shame people who use them while refusing to vet said ads beforehand. They should be treated the same as any pervert exposing themselves to kids on the street. I see little difference between the two.

Google does not review advertisements. If you pay google for an ad, they do not verify it, they don’t check it, they just blindly publish it to their ad network.

They rely on user reports, after the content is shown. As a result, google has no way to prevent this. Any objectionable or maicious content will be shown to users before anything can be done about it.

The solution to this is simple, have a human watch and approve the ad before it goes live. But google will never do this.

content managers who have been tasked with monitoring content like that have horrible mental health problems though.

Whenever I have heard stories like that it was human review of content that was already reported by users, which is the practice I am criticizing google for. Watching a curated list of abusive content will do that.

What I am describing is human review of every ad on the platform. There are very few mental health issues when the bad content is the vast minority.

Maybe because it’s not actually that simple.

Imagine thinking you absolutely gotta police user content, but you’re such a nympho you can’t even decide who you do business with.

Unpopular opinion - who cares about porn? We should just normalise people having sex. If it’s about the kids… maybe worry about the hyperviolence going on everywhere instead?

I kinda don’t want YouTube to show my 8 year old daughter porn ads.

And sure sex needs to be normalised, and my daughter needs to learn about it soon enough, but porn isn’t just normal sex… It’s often quite extreme and exaggerated, or even semi violent. And I’m not one to kink shame anyone, but I still think young people should start learning about the more “vanilla” kind of sex. Once they are comfortable with their sexuality and their body they can explore on their own.

Porn can be quite shocking and frightening if it’s a person’s first introduction to the topic of sex.

But besides that… I don’t have a problem with porn, but I don’t want it pushed on me.

It doesn’t have to be one or the other. I’m sure plenty of people don’t want to have either shown to them without consent.

Yeah I’m one of them. I was merely pointing out the inconsistency in having all this hue and cry about porn when violence is ignored

They say they wanna combat what they view as bad ads but the second a company is willing to pay their price for advertising go*gle decides now is as good a time as ever to show everyone porn ads.

…if you’re watching youtube at work, you have deeper problems than the ads it serves up…
